Contrary to being the current target of fan hate, the kid has not regressed at all.

Burks has made solid yoy improvements while being more of a focal point, something that tends to have the reverse effect on box score stats. His A:T is up 17%, TOV and AST% up sharply, and he's getting to the line 15% more. The only area he seems to have declined in is 3 point shooting percentages. However, it seems like many of his shots are late shot situations where he has to create off the bounce. That's a poor shot but one he has to take. Not his fault.

Outside of stats, he's clearly made improvements playing within the offense both on and off ball. There were times last season that he looked lost, and having him as a playmaker was a disaster. He's been a much better facilitator in spite of having a weaker surrounding cast.

There have been several instances where he has passed up obvious passes for a selfish shot. That is not the type of basketball I like seeing in a Jazz uni. Not only that but his shot is not good enough to be tha tplayer.

This entire organization from GM to last guy on the bench (excluding biedrins) deserves the year to show case what they can and cannot do. But Burks needs to work on his team play, shot and FTs.

This from Locke a couple of days ago: "Talked with a scout before the game who thought that Burks better learn how to be a point guard because he is not an nba shooting guard. Was a perspective that made me pause and think for a moment? He might have a point. Give me some time to digest this and think about if this is true." If that's the case he clearly blew as a point guard last night so do we have Kirk Snyder the second?

Burks had better start showing he can shoot or he better start working on his Mandarin. His percentages suck and his form is just as bad. At this point he looks like a lost cause. (PS: he is not a PG either.)

In a couple weeks, we will have seen another cycle of the Church of Burks threads, Hayward will have gone from Max money to NO money, Kanter will once again be declared a max player, and Favors will take some more games off, then he will suddenly wake up...

Such is the life of a Jazz Fan in the year of the tank.

Burks is a backup SG. Until he actually gets to log a lot of minutes as a backup SG, I'm not going to be too harsh on him. It's not fair to him to have him starting as a PG. He isn't a PG.

Strawman debunked in advance. See OP stats.

I don't have any understanding whatsoever of some of the things he does (why he tries to guard SO CLOSE AT ALL TIMES paired with his generally bad defensive posture, his weird off-the-dribble 15 footers, his weird one-foot inside the arc shots, that he has a seemingly hard time jumping straight up and down on his shots).

His ability to get inside and make magic happen around the rim will get him pretty far if he can learn to play like a not-dumbass.

So because he has improved, which I never denied, that means he still does not make selfish plays at a higher then acceptable level?

Edit: With his ability to get to the rim and draw fouls I would like to see him focus on his FT%. He is a career 72% FT shooter and is at that level this year. He needs to bump that up 10%.

Thats how I seem him too. His defense is just stupid.

What I dont understand is why doesn't one of the coaches just tell him to not guard so close, and teach him the correct way?

Its like the coaches have no clue how to play either.

its just like, why is it that no one on the team knows how to set a pick or run a pick and roll. The whole thing is just bizarre to watch from a far.

This also reminds me of, why is it that half the league cant figure out how to perform a jump ball. Or how none of them have figured out how to intentionally miss a free throw.

Maybe coaches just cant fix stupid.

Burks looks like he doesn't work on his game in the off season. I heard (on the radio) he didn't hire a shooting coach and mostly works out alone. He has tremendous raw athletic talent. Too bad he relies on it more than fundamentals.

I've been saying the Jazz should trade Burks for a while now. Even after that game when he scored 25ish points and became everyone's savior. The kid plays dumb. He takes one dumb shot after another. He's very inefficient offensively, and he doesn't stay with his man defensively. Trade him now while you can still get something decent for him.

A lot of these same arguments, with perhaps different statistical categories, were made for CJ Miles as well, especially the highlighted aspect.

I fail to see what CJ Miles has to do with Alec Burks. I believe in treating each player separately.

But yeah, the CJ apologists were unbearably bbfiq dumb.

Unfortunately, this is the only place where Burks has much perceived value.

Compare and contrast, my friend.
