What's new

One more though with the core 5

Of course not, because if anyone over 25 was averaging 1 mpg, you'd probably complain about it.

I just have a strange philosophy of playing your best players the most and choosing players that will be around long term over short term players.
If I thought jeffy was better than burks then I would not have a problem with him getting more minutes.
If marv was under contract next year and was a lot better than kanter then i would have no problem with marv taking so many minutes from kanter.

I'm not against older players..... I'm against crappy short term players silly

Right now, Favors, Kanter, and Gobert all play the same position. I'm very hopeful that one or two them will be able to play PF for good stretches of the game, hopefully by February, but so far this year they are not. Gobert is getting minutes in the D-League, and will probably be our backup next year.

Did you think favors is a rookie?

He actually was in the nba for the last 3 years (you probably didn't know cause he was on the bench) and playing quite well at the power forward spot.

In fact, playing the PF is how he earned a four year contract extension!

No I have a problem with their usage rates being so high. They should have started on the bench and not been given starting roles right of the bat, let's see what our young guys can do playing together, because I'm pretty sure they haven't seen much court time as a unit.

Same for Hayward/Burks/Clark, they all play the same position.

Williams plays time at the stretch 4. That is time taken from Kanter. How else do you explain it? Evans, Biedrins and Gobert are not getting that time.

Sorry for the exaggeration. However, this year, your two philosophical points are in conflict regarding Williams vs. Kanter; the better player right now is the short-term player.

I also think Jefferson seems to play too much, though.

From what I recall of last season, Favors played well off the bench next to Kanter (as a PF, I'm not so sure about), and played well next to Millsap as a C, but the Favors-Jefferson combination, when Favors would have been a PF, struggled. When has Favors ever had the offensive game of a PF?

I explain it as Kanter not being ready for significant time at the 4, particularly against the leagues starting 4s. How do you explain it? Perversity?

I definately don't have a big problem with marvin over kanter especially since I could see him with the jazz long term.
I do feel bad for kanter..... the kid can't catch a break in his basketball career
Maybe if we got rid of jefferson then marvin could take take half of jeffersons minutes at the 3 and hayward get the other half..... that would get a few more minutes for burks and especially kanter.

But that is in a perfect world where everything works out so easily on paper and I understand its not realistic.

Corbin is not doing to bad a job.
Most of the youngins are in fact playing lots.

Thank god DL didn't sign anymore decent vets for corbin to play

Sorry for the exaggeration.

No problem
I hit you with some smart *** comment about favors being a power forward soon after.
Sorry about that.

We are good

I justify his need for time as:

1) He means more to our future than Williams
2) We need to see what he can and cannot do with good minutes (25+) for a full season right now instead of down the road
3) It helps the tank and Kanter develop and prepare for the future at the same time!
4) He needs the time on the floor with Burke, Burks, Hayward and Favors more than Williams.
5) 13 minutes in a game is asinine for him. Don't want him to log 35+ fine, fair enough. But 13!!!! Idiocy.

Sorry, but Marvin is playing the 4, and he is not a 4, but it has worked out because his overall play has been pretty good. But he is not a good option at the 4 for the future, and we need to develop our players for the future -- Kanter and Gobert.

Pretty damn good explanation.
Agree with all of it

I hope it would be Kanter, but it might be someone else we acquire. It will never be Gobert.

Never said Gobert would be a 4, just needs time on the court. Actually, the 4 is the best position for both Favors and Kanter, and Gobert is our only true 5. He needs playing time. However, you sort it out, Jeffy and Marvin take minutes away from Kanter and Gobert, who is playing in the D-League. What is that all about, the D-League? We need to tank and we need to develop the young guys. Everyone agrees with this, but Corbin either doesn't care about our future or is a bleeping idiot.

I think playing less has motivated Kanter to play better and smarter. Earlier I advocated Kanters move to the bench, and with his improved play I'd like to see him moved back into the starting lineup much like Hayward was last year. However I'm fine with Gobert not getting the time as it probably takes time from both Kanter and Favors. Then let him earn his minutes gradually next year

Not gonna happen

Well he should. More and more it seems like the front office thinks Kanter might not be part of the future, because they feel Favors and Kanter don't mix as well. Now that Kanter seems to be playing better... Shouldn't the jazz find out for sure if they can't.

Hell ya they should.

Should start the core 5 for the rest of the year tbh
