I've seen a lot of people on this board complaining that the Jazz are playing too good, that they are ruining their chances for a star player. But what if we have some in the making already? I just think that if one of our players starting putting up great numbers and improving, a lot of people would complain about it.

I find it interesting, even though I hate the Paul George and Gordon Hayward comparison, how similar their stats our with similar roles on their teams. I know this is a small sample size and I am in no way suggesting that Hayward and George are on the same level, just some food for thought. These are their stats in years that they are asked to be the number 1 option.

That being said, if we add a top player from the draft, we have an even brighter future.

Wow. The similarities in those numbers is crazy.
 
If only stats told the whole story.

There's also those pesky things called intangibles. You know, leadership, toughness, etc.

Like being bullied by Delonte West or JJ Barea? Definitely the toughness that wins championships. I could see MJ letting John Starks give him a wet willey...

Anyone who even attempts to compare these 2 players has obviously never seen George play or is just grabbing at straws here.

Hayward is a nice role player who scores a lot off opportunistic tip ins and fast break pts: George is one of the best players in the league. You can run your offense through him.

One good game against a crappy OKC team (lost 4 of 6) clearly overlooking the Jazz doesn't make Hayward God. These boards are so desperate for optimism that they've completely given up trying to be objective.

I really like these numbers. Gordon while having a higher USG%, has a lower TO Ratio and a higher AST%. He is not rebounding the ball as good as George and has a lower 3FG%. And his eFG% and TS% is not as bad as we might think because he is getting more to the free throw line. Let's see how he continues.

I was thinking more of his hustle, his motor and his composure to not let dirtbags like west get to him.

Obviously George's team was better then Hayward's this year, but if they are putting up the same numbers isn't that intriguing? Only time will tell most likely next year too.

Personally I'd rather have a cool headed player like Hayward, then one who is crazy like Cousins who hurts his team. Hayward's play gets into peoples heads.

That's right. I mensioned it before in the game thread the ratings from nba.com are team ratings, which means who good was the team with the player on the court and the ratings from basketball-reference.com are player ratings.

Here are the Rtg from basketball-reference.com :

Gordon in the first 37 games has an ORtg of 104 and a DRtg of 109. George in his first 37 games last season, had an ORtg of 100 and a DRtg of 94.

George was still better but Gordons own Rtgs are actually better than the team Rtgs.
 
This thread has proven one thing to me. That perception is everything in our human brains. Any proof aside we have our perceptions and will go to any argument to prove ourselves right. Stats can be deceptive, they can also illuminate with clarity. Its all in what stats you present. Its a little like watching sports center highlights. If all you see are a players great plays one stacked on top of another, that guy then looks like superman (no, the real superman). If you cared to show his lowlight's he can be made to look like a putz. Maybe that's why so many here always see that the grass is greener when it comes to someone else's player. It's interesting that two players can have basic stats that are almost an exact match yet so many view one player as a great player and the other as basically a failure. Perception!

It's undeniable that George had a more polished team around him with a system the players knew. So for Hayward to be putting up similar stats is pretty amazing. The stats are not great but I do think Hayward has the ability to be a really good player. This type of thing is why I've never fully bought into the tank. Internal improvement is just as important to me.

And because internal improvement is just as important to me it drives me crazy that Jefferson is getting so many freakin minutes.
