The OFFICIAL don't draft Joel Embiid thread

Stupid justification? As opposed to intelligent ones you've offered?

Please point out the justifications of mine that have exhibited a lack of intelligence-- and I would really appreciate if you could describe why you came to that conclusion.

Look, we're all clueless about basketball here. If we weren't, we'd work for a basketball organization. Pretending like because you watch college ball and read ESPN, you have some arcane knowledge that beantown or I don't is pretentious beyond belief.

Lol, you're right. Deciding to not draft a player cuz he's from Africa, and comparing him to Tyson Chandler and Dwight Howard is completely on par with the posts I've made in this thread.

It's like people who've read 3 articles on economics on wikipedia and argue endlessly in the general forum about how everyone else is stupid and they know economy.

It's like being vocal in a political debate (like say, for example, gun control)-- you're not a politician so you obviously don't know anything about politics and therefore all of our stances are equal in credibility and equal in intelligence.

To me, Embiid looks like an athletic, long big who can block shots and get some points around the basket. To you, he looks like a franchise cornerstone.

To me, he has the highest potential to be a franchise cornerstone, for reasons I've mentioned. Your appraisal isnt that problematic for me-- but it leaves out his court vision, which is arguably the most tantalizing aspect of his repertoire as a player.

We can argue all day about this, but don't pull the "my understanding of basketball is better than yours" crap(obviously, this isn't aimed at just you). That's both pretentious and ignorant.

Does this remind anyone else of the "fact-checkers" stories during the election? C'mon Jim. You're better than this.

On second thought, there definitely is a component of "my opinion is better than yours" on Jazzfanz, and Jim is right there. I've also noticed him being more militant against it, which goes to show why more and more people dislike his takes.

Personally, I try not to assert my opinion as correct-- but Jesus Christ dude, you're putting my posts on par with BeanTown's on this thread? Really?

Ok, I don't know what you call a put back, but to me any shot made immediately after an offensive rebound is a put back. And since I didn't see him hit shots from that range, I can only assume that it's an airball. Especially since he went through a full shooting motion.

The pass was obvious but since you never have watched him play then I guess I can understand that you don't really know anything about him, like the fact that he has a nice outside shot.

As for the putback comment, there was not a single offensive rebound in the video, so like I said no putbacks.

Like, I'm not all for the incessant tanking that many are. I agree with Burks being benched. I think Hayward is better than most others do. I don't mind Ty. My opinions definitely aren't always shared with the masses, and I don't care to make my opinion completely permeate, but I absolutely despise people writing off draft prospects with blanket-generalizations. Huge huge pet-peeve of mine-- and hence my tens of posts in this thread. It doesn't have to do with me placing my opinions over you (Jim) or Bean (although Bean consistently has some brutal takes). In fact, I often enjoy your takes Jim, as you should know. I just don't think you should bother being so anti-groupthink if you disagree with most. It's a waste of time.

It's not about being African or not being African. I'm wary of anyone who started playing basketball 17.

Duncan didn't start playing until he was in the 9th grade and Hakeem didn't start until he was 15. Embiid shows that he has a feel for the game, that's whats important

Hakeem was one of the greatest NBA players of all time. All freaking time. Top 10 easily, and arguably top 5. His list of accomplishments is ridiculous. Here is a player who isn't even the number one option on his college team, but he's going to be like Hakeem.

Hakeem was not as good as Embiid his freshman year in college. By your logic, Embiid is going to be Hakeem X 1.25.

But the discussion of 7 footers being rare was in response to BLine....not you.

Ok Beandip, lets put this argument to rest once and for all. Let's be generous and say that there are 45 players in the NBA over 7'(this is being generous, as every reference I could find said there are not over 40 players that tall). That means that out of the 450 or so players that play in the NBA, there are 10% or less of them are over 7' tall. In this draft, the players that will go in the first round and are over 7' tall are Joel Embiid and Willie Cauley-Stein. So out of 30 players in the first round, there are 2 that are over 7' tall.

So less than 10% of the league is over 7' tall, yet up to 20% of the league plays the center position, where being tall basically gets you a job. In my book, that is rare.

Even more rare are athletic 7 footers. Embiid is an athletic 7 footer. Even more rare than an athletic 7 footer is a guy who is 7', athletic, and has a feel for the game more than 2 feet from the basket.

So are 7 footers in the NBA rare? Absolutely they are. But 7 footers in the NBA with actual talent and ability beyond dunks and blocks are extremely rare.

Its not rare. Any team can go get a 7 footer whenever they want. Again every team probably has a 7 footer on their roster. Being rare would be if only a few teams had 7 footers and they were hard to come by.....or they were coveted in some way. But just being 7 feet tall means absolutely nothing.

Again look at 2012. Out of the 4....7 footers that were drafted in the first round all but 1 sucks balls. So that year... 75% of the first round 7 footers were busts. So again just being 7 feet tall has no effect on your success in the NBA.

Im just glad that we finally have someone on jazz fanz that can predict players whole careers after one season in the nba
