What's new

Anybody else think Alec Burks can be a 20-25PPG player with 30+ MPG?

Gee, if only we had a season to throw away so we could find out!

What about Kanter? Evans? Heck, Gobert? Wouldn't it be nice to just play the young guys 30+ and see what they can do? I mean, if they play awesome, then we know what they are. If they play poorly, then we know what they are and gain a lotto pick.

But we gotta help Jefferson and Williams gain new contracts for new teams.

Maybe next year can be the year we forget about Ws/Ls and just let the young players play???

He will not get as many touches if he starts.

The starting lineup lacks a true scorer and number 1 option.
Burks should start AND get lots of touches. Let hayward play defense, spot up for threes and run and finish in transition.
Let favors play defense, rebound, and run pick n roll with alec burks.
Let trey be a solid point guard that doesnt turn the ball over and shoots alot less so he doesnt have to do much. (he is only a rookie after all)
Marvin can continue spreading the floor to open up driving lanes for alec.

Seriously, favors and marv dont need many touches, hayward would probably be better and more efficient with less touches, and trey is a rookie trying to do too much.

Lets unleash the beast and see what Alec "slick pimp" burks can do

Gotta admit Zu's, you were right. Back in mid-late November I had completely given up on Burks and felt we should trade him for anything before the league found out... Burks has really impressed me as of late. Not just his scoring, but his passing too. That lightning pass he made to Jeremy for an open jumper after driving baseline was SICK!! I'll try and swing by the science building one of these days.

In the mornings MTWR is the best time to find me!!!

Good post. First, Thriller's comment made me chuckle. If only we had a throw away season to find out - lol.

Second you are right. Hayward is shooting 41% FGs, 32% 3pt and getting 17 ppg on 14.5 shots. Burks is shooting 45% FGs and 35% 3pt and getting 13 ppg on 10 shots. The both get to the line 4.5 times a game, but Burks does it in 27 minutes while Hayward does it in 36 minutes. Burks should be the guy doing the shooting and scoring on the team. Hayward is the better all-around player of the two - he rebounds and facilitates better than Burks - let him take on that role of playmaker and reduce his shots. He also defends better, so let him focus on that.

Also, forget about 30+, let's get him in the 34-35+ range like Hayward. He has a PER of 15.5, Dick's PER is 11.5 - Dick and Burks shouldn't be playing virtually the same number of minutes.

FWIW, in the seven games he's played 34+ minutes, he's averaging 22.6 ppg. Sure small sample size, but I think he's earned the opportunity to see what he can do with Hayward type minutes.

Allah dis.

And your last paragraph answers the question of the OP in my opinion.

especially since he is only getting better.

When d wade was 22 years old (his rookie year) he was averaging 35 minutes per game and 16.5 points.

Burks at 22 years old is averaging 22.6 pts per game when he gets over 34 minutes per. (Granted burks has kinda played two years in nba)
Very encouraging.

Considering Burks generally only breaks that barrier when he is already playing well that stat isn't too surprising to me. He is getting there though. More good games than bad ones these days.
