What's new

next head coach of the Utah Jazz _____________?

To boil it down to two scenarios, do you think Utah will go proven vet coach, or new up and comer?

Up and comer is cheaper..... and more happy to take whatever is available.

Proven coach will look for the best situation (though the jazz are in a good situation imo, they are still located in utah) and be more expensive

Don't think coaches care about location that much tbh.

Only huge turnoff about Utah right is that they are in the West and coaching a playoff team in the West is a huge task right now, not matter how talented your team is.

SLC Dunk threw this name out there:

I think the main thing we know about Dennis Lindsey's plan right now is that he wants to build a defensive focused team like Chicago.

Enter Mike Longabardi.

Who is Mike Longabardi you ask? Well he has been in the news lately as an assistant on Jeff Hornacek's Suns staff. In fact Longabardi has been given full credit for that team's defensive turnaround...

This one's intriguing because of the DL connection through the Rockets, and he was a part of the Thib's/Celtics defensive system.

Buzz Williams
Gregg Marshall?
Alex Jensen and/or Brad Jones I guess

I don't want a retread.

I would suspect that the Utah Jazz head coaching job would be quite coveted. What is there not to like? Stability, up and coming team with cap room, pliant press, local endorsement deals, even more stability, and a team culture that doesn't accept knuckleheads and treats even lackluster coaching with respect. Also, Crown Burger.

There is no reason to settle for Alex Jensen, let's get someone in here that has a proven track record of running a defense.

I would love to see the Jazz go after Jeff Van Gundy. There are several reasons why I think that he would be the perfect fit. We could pick him up for cheap. He has been out of coaching for a while and has vocally stated that he wants to get back in to coaching. He is a very strategic thinker, while coaching he focused on finding the weakness in the opponents defense as well as matching the players he has to the attributes they bring to the table. I know that is what coaches are supposed to do but most of them are horrible at that. He has mentioned time and time again how much he likes the system in Utah.
I think that he would be able to extract the most talent off what he has on the table. He's experienced and passionate about basketball.
