Diamond in the Rough: 2014 Draft

Alright guys this has been a good discussion, props all round..

Seems like there are 2 camps ATM:

Camp 1: Prefers the safe option and going with Vonleh.

Camp 2: Prefers to swing for the fences and get either Kyle Anderson, Nikkk Stauskus or McDermott.

problem with picking vonleh - why? we have favors and kanter. if we are picking vonleh, then it means we are giving up on kanter. i don't wanna give up on kanter just yet. and that's why i don't like picking randle. we gotta draft shooters and upgrade our 2 & 3.

put it this way. if favors or kanter came out. both of them would've been graded same or higher than vonleh.

Have to remember Vonleh is 18 though. Won't be ready for heavy minutes for at least 2 years. By then we'll know alot more about Kanter, and if he will ever be able to coexist with Favors or not. If not, you get what you can for him and plug a natural PF, Vonleh, into the position.

Umm, if that's the scenario we are faced with, I pray some dip-**** GM offers us a decent package and move down.

Moot point though as we will be picking 3rd.

My biggest problem with Vonleh isn't his lack of offensive polish, or size, .. it's more to do with his explosiveness. His size isn't bad, but it's not elite, and he doesn't seem to be able to get a lot of lift. I'm worried he'll be just "average" vs other NBA bigs.

i just hate the idea of developing somebody for 2-3 years. i need an immediate contribution!

jabari parker really is the perfect match. sigh

I think we should pick the best player available.

I take James Young. He has the most offensive upside of all the remaining players. Second if we want to go safe I go with Dough McDermott.

I think it's way too early to project a potential dark horse since we haven't had a chance to see how these kids measure out or test.

As it stands today, McDaniels is about the only kid I'd guess at because of his athleticism.

Whoah.. that's not safe bro. To me that's one of the most dangerous trap in this draft with respect to how his lack of athleticism will translate in the NBA.

let's just trade burke for stauskas or a pick to get him
I would crap my pants if that happened, and it would come out smelling like potpourri. I thought he was a mistake to begin with. Looking back, I wish we'd have gone with the Greek Freak.
Burke put up 24 pts and 15 assists last night. We haven't had a point guard who can do that since DWill left. Not sure if DWill ever did that as a rookie.
lets not forget we killed Al for the amount of shots he took to get his points. Burke took 20-22 shots for those 24 points. He's short of a great athlete and struggles to get to the rim and finish. Yes. The assists were nice, but it's not his makeup he's a shoot first pg with none of the physical makeup that Deron has. He will put up good numbers from time to time, but he will put up a lot of duds and poor shooting performances.

Both had terrible tournaments, so they will drop!
Don't forget Embiid in the second round. Injury concerns. Lol.
