rockets- Harden prime example why I'm worried about Parker.

Parker in college had some serious problems on defense.

If anybody watched the game between the blazers and rockets or any rockets game you will know by know that Harden is an absolutely terrible defender.

im seriously worried about how he will be on defense vs opponents that are much faster and agile.

can he score? yes.

will he ever be a championship player? not sure.

Ettore Messina says that anyone can play defense because defense is a team concept. All a player needs to do is keep his opponent in front of him for one or two dribbles to allow for the team to recognize and adjust.

Since I am now firmly seated on the Messina bandwagon it must be true.

We also work extensively on our one-on-one defense. I believe that if all players make honest effort to keep their opponents in front of them at least for a couple of dribbles, you’ll already have a foundation for a good defense. Don’t allow uncontested penetrations, don’t let people come in front of you easily, never let opponents take low post positions without fighting for them. All these position-related things are very basic but at the same time absolutely vital.

Defensive tactics are important, but fundamentals come first. Footwork, first and foremost. How do you slide through screens? How do you go over them? What’s the right way to move when you’re helping and then rotating back to your man? How do you defend crossover dribbles? How to make sure you don’t buy every pump-fake? It may sound strange, but even a top-level professional team like us puts a lot of work into these little basics. We often set up one-on-one situations in practice and go over fundamentals again and again. Not only in pre-season, but during the season as well.

On offense Jabari is the most complete player in the draft. I defense he needs to lose weight to be effective. Like 20 pounds or so.

All year I wanted Jabari because I thought he has the right mentality to be a star. On offense he will be a star for sure.

Wiggins I think will end up being a Gerald Wallace/Kidd-Gilchrist type player but with a much better shot. Which is what they were lacking.

I don't think Wiggins will be more than a role player though. This is why this draft is highly overrated. I would rather have Wiggins though because of the lack of defense from Jabari.

Unless we move up in the draft we won't have a chance at drafting either of them though.

Vehemently disagree with this comparison.

I'm not here to defend Jabari's D but his problems are more tangible, its lateral quickness on the perimeter and lack of strength in the post mixed in with some confusion in P+R and some questionable effort. simply put Jabari gets beat by lesser players

Harden on the otherhand beats himself, hes not even paying attention most of the time and appears totally in his own world, a liability at any given moment.

Harden is among the worst defenders I have ever seen. You see ^ clip? You could honestly get 20 minutes worth of "defensive" plays like that from a single game of Harden's.

His defense is beyond pathetic. He is an absolute net-negative, and I am thanking the Gods that we never made a huge trade for him like Houston did. Unbelievable that they're about to get swept out of the first round. Lmao.

harden is all offense. he is so lazy on D. no effort whatsoever.

but i thought this thread was about the offense. harden's offense is not good for the playoffs. he can only function in iso, but in the playoffs the defense tightens up. and he is a very streaky shooter.

parker is completely package offensively. harden is too 1 dimensional. lack of midrange game and just doesn't have post up game yet.

I simply could never be a fan of a team with the current rendition of Harden as their best player. I am so, so glad that he is ****ting the bed for one of my least favourite teams in all of sports.
