Official Player Workouts for the Utah Jazz

You can be excited all you want but even with a new coach the Jazz are not going to be a contender for a few more years and that is if everything goes right. There a lot of very good teams in the western conference so taking a dramatic jump isn't going to happen overnight.

So what should we define as a contender? Because Houston was a contender, but they lost in the first round. And we all know everybody was complaining here of losing in the first round. So I just want an exciting team that gets respect.

I'd take a playoff win - or two - in the 1st round. Getting swept, with 3 of those losses by 15, 31 and 12 points is not my definition of success.

First round this year has been amazing!
In the WC, 3 of the series went 7 games and Portland/Houston was a terrific 6 game battle, with three OT games.
In the EC, 2 of the series went 7 games, Chicago/Washington only 5, but all within 9 pts. Only Miami/Charlotte wasn't tight. But the Bobcats worst defeat was by 13, so at least respectable.

I'm just not seeing thing potential or the Spurs type potential with this team that other jazz fans see, actually it seems that only jazz fans see that while non jazz fans see Atlanta at best ( not bad enough for lotto but not good enough to get past the second round). We have some good players but no lock potential all star. Even with a good coach we are a 6 or lower seed in a couple years. I know some fans won't be able to see it but the realistic fan will see what the jazz really are now and potential in the future. To be a contender you either need two super stars or three all star caliber players, we have neither.

Trey has potential to be pretty good but I think people forget what other point guards are in the west that are all stars and he ones who are just below the cut like a Lawson, Conley, etc.

Whoever thought Houston was ever a contender didn't watch basketball this year

misread thread title as "Official Prayer workouts for Utah Jazz"

guess that's what happens when listening to the radio and the news is about a Supreme Court decision.

But then again, prayers couldn't hurt!!!

Based on what?
Trey hit a couple of fourth-quarter shots and suddenly everyone gets weak in the knees? Other than those shots, he had a ^&%$# year shooting-wise. OK, you can say PG's generally struggle in their rookie seasons. But the fact remains that Trey is a small PG who lacks speed. He ain't gonna grow during the summer, nor will he get much faster. Yes, he'll get better. But he'll always have considerable limitations. Trey can become "crafty" but he'll never be great. He just doesn't have the size and strength to outmuscle or post-up other PG's, nor the speed to blow by them. My hope is he becomes a top-15 PG in the league, maybe even in the discussion as 10th or so. But he'll not get beyond that.

As for team potential, I agree the Jazz don't have any superstars. But I disagree that we don't have potential all-stars - Hayward, for one. He was misused this season; take away running the offense so much and his shooting will recover. There's a reason he gets invited to the national team camps. Burks can be unbelievable if unleashed. Kanter and Favors are making progress. And add in our pick wherever it falls. Maybe I'm wrong and a new coach will make zero difference. But I don't think so.

I think the Jazz will have a pretty decent 7-man rotation just with their current five plus two first-round picks. Add 1-2 FA's and Gobert...that's not a bad group. Probably too young to make the playoffs next season in a tough WC. I'm projecting about 40 wins. But in two years, I see them making the playoffs, then pushing for home court after that.

Did you read what I said? You're argument reads like I said Trey was going to become a AllStar instead of what I said which was " a pretty good point guard"

Sorry but Hayward is only a AllStar in our "jazz fans" minds. Allstars don't miss the game because they are misused. He's a third option at best on a good team. We've seen what he can do as a number one option on a bad team
