Two players that will be their at #5. Two players that are listed as being able to play two positions.

Gordon as a SF/PF

Vonleh at PF/C

The interesting thing is their size. At the combine Vonleh was only 0.5 inches taller than Gordon:

Gordon @ 6''7.5

Vonleh @ 6'8

Vonleh has Gordon on his wingspan, but Gordon has him on athleticism and vertical.

Vonleh is also very skinny where Gordon is extremely strong.

Vonleh does have the shooting though, his 3p% was pretty impressive and could be a nice stretch 4.

But I choose Gordon. Gordon has the chance to be elite, Vonleh will just be another nice role player.

I'm going to disagree with you.
Gordon will be a role player due to his lack of offense.

Vonleh is going to be an all-star as a PF.

If Vonleh is only 1/2 an inch taller, yet weighs 27 lbs more, how is he skinny when Gordon is Extremely strong?

Depending upon how workouts go, I am not convinced that Vonleh will be there at #5. Still think Exum slips and there is a chance Smart gets picked in front of him. Still don't care as I want Gordon. Gordon just has a higher BBIQ than anyone else in the top 10. I have yet to see bad things happen when you combine elite athleticism with a high BBIQ AND a relentless motor. Many in the top 10 have 2 of the three, but Gordon is the only one with all 3.

You can't be an All-Star and have no elite skill. Vonleh does nothing elite. Next year Gordon will be one of the most athletic defenders in the league.

Gordon, and it was never close.

If you don't know, do the research, 'cause I'm tired of posting it.

One can be a 3, which we need, the other can only be a 4, which is probably the inly position we don't need.

The combination of elite athleticism, motor, and BBIQ really is tantalizing. I just don't know if he'll ever be a great scorer. His footwork in the post is non-existent, he doesn't have a good touch, and he can't shoot off the dribble to save his life.

He does seem like a hard worker, though. And a perfectionist (from what I gather from his interviews). Maybe those two things allow him to put together his scoring abilities in time, but he has a loooong way to go.

Vonleh is not skinny. It is the other way around. Gordon only weighs 220 lbs.

Vertical was 39" to 37" not really that big of a difference considering Vonleh has him by 27 lbs. The difference in wingspan is pretty significant if I recall.
Are those measurements in shoes or barefoot.
Overall Vonleh is a better two way player. His offensive skills are more advance than Gordon. They both rebound well. Both are good defenders. I give the edge defensively to Gordon but it doesn't make up for his raw offensive skills.
Vonleh is even younger than Gordon, at least I think that is true.

I like Gordon over Vonleh only because I think he can play some SF which is a position of need. If I am wrong I probably would take Vonleh since he can score and play defense. Vonleh outside shot is what currently sets him apart from Gordon. I would choose Gordon if I think he can develop an outside jumper. The jury is still out if either can be all-star or superstar level. Right now I see two young guys with a whole lot of potential and a lot to prove.

from what I've heard,

Gordon's BBIQ>>>>>>>>>Vonleh's BBIQ

I'd say Gordon is by far the better athlete (lol @ anyone who thinks you can quantify one's athleticism simply by their combine measurements), has a better BBIQ and feel for the game, a better motor, and more of that "it" personality... the competitiveness/perfectionism... the desire to be THE BEST.

Vonleh has a crazy long wingspan paired with monstrous hands and a better offensive repertoire at the moment.

I like Vonleh's chances better at becoming a reliable two-way player, but I like Gordon's chances better at becoming a star. If that makes sense. I just don't see enough bad-assery in Vonleh. I do see a lot of it in Gordon, actually.

I think if we keep this pick, we need to swing for the fences. Right now, I'd take Gordon over Vonleh.
