Realistic expectations for Exum, our future star

I read on Hoops Hype that he stopped eating junk food in hopes of improving his stamina.

I think he'll work hard and have a Gobert-like improvement - perhaps not as drastic but he'll be better.

I think he'll work on his shot. What will make Exum a star is he has such a quick first-step. Defenders will play him somewhat loose for this reason so when his shot improves he will be scary good in that defenders will either give him the shot or have Exum go to the basket.

Also, putting on some muscle will obviously help. Working on his core will be especially important.

I think Exum is going to be a star. I was so impressed seeing him this preseason (Clippers game).

He has plenty of time to improve.

Revisionist history at best.

This isn't tennis we're talking about here. And the posters before us are also talking about whether people could see something special with Kobe. I remember those years. Whatever it was, he had it.

That said, talking about, arguing, comparing, or referencing Exum with Kobe is ridiculous.

lol true that, exum likes to pass the ball

All very interesting points. I was expecting to see Kobe somewhere in the conversation. I don't particularly see Kobe there, although I'd take 80% of what Kobe has been without a doubt. Still not sure what to make out of him, and probably too soon to determine. What's exciting about him is that I think he's one of those players where you keep going 'who is he? who is he?' and all of a sudden boom, he's there. We've got a consistent star, which of course is plain frickin'... awesome!

Kobe was a selfish player at 18 and is still a selfish player. Dante is the polar opposite when it comes to playing style. Pretty much everything he does is within the team concept. Even in his 33pt game vs Spain(U18), he didn't seem to force much of the offense, even though it was asked of him. He is selfless to a fault, but if he plays with the intensity and aggression he displayed in U18 tourneys, Hoop Summit, etc. I think he will turn out pretty good.

Right now he seems to lack the confidence and physicality to be aggressive, he also seems scared of making mistakes. I think the coaching staff need to talk to him about it(if they haven't already) and just give him the green light and tell him they expect him to be aggressive and expect him to get the team going, even if that means making some mistakes in the process...

I think Exum is very likely to be an All Star. He'll be a game-changing player on both ends of the court, even if his skills aren't 100% polished.

I'm just reflecting on how Exum / Burks (or Hood) / Hayward / Anthony Davis / Favors would be a legit title contender. Right now, we should be focusing on getting a versatile, athletic PF who can dominate the game.

I have no expectations for an 18-19 year old kid. There are glimpses but that is all there is currently.

If this was 15 years ago, I'd say this is fine. But with how competitive the basketball circuit has become and how good some of these guys are in the NBA by the age of 20 or 21, I'd say it's totally fine to have some sort of expectations for the kid. Tempered, yes. But expectations nonetheless.

What are mine? To see improvement over the course of the year.

Not true. Even on his first year, Kobe was aggressive. In fact, Kobe was selected to the all-star team when he was Exum's age.

You are mistake. About kobe and his rookie campaign. He averaged 15 minutes per game and scored 7 ppg. He had flashes, but he sucked pretty bad. Exum is not far off from kobes rookie season.

Lol. I like how you just threw the only guy who has potential to be better than lebron in there like no one would notice.
