Why Don't the Jazz Sign Better Players to be a Better Team?

I think they should never take the easy way in life. Instead they should sign only d league guys and win the championship

Yeah, why didn't the Jazz sign Lebron and Love, and Bosh, etc this year? Stupid Jazz. I mean, they were free agents.

:)

Love was not a free agent this year. Also, there is a huge segment of players you are ignoring that fall in-between what the Jazz have and LeBron James--which could have been brought to Utah. Heck, some of which were already in Utah, and the decision was made by mgmt. to let them leave.

Yeah, what about Kevin Durant? Or even that dirk guy who plays for Texas?

Maybe we could have kept Deron at $20M. Or kept Big AL. He's leading Charlotte to the championship this season.
JazzInsider, do you know anything about the cap and luxury tax? You can't keep everyone. Eventually tough decisions have to be made. Even in the Stockton/Malone era, popular and good players were traded to make way for the younger ones.

Sure, Utah could have retained Millsap and DMC. They could have re-signed Foye. Then what?
A team that competes for the 8th seed? We perenially draft 14th or 18th as a result. Jazz have their cap space tied up in Millsap, Hayward and either Kanter or Favors - and a few aging vets. Does Utah ever compete for even homecourt in the 1st round?

Why is Atlanta killing it with Millsap, DMC and Korver? Because they already have Horford and Teague - an all-star and fringe all-star. Take away Horford and what did "Jazz East" do last season? 38-44. What were Teague's stats his first year (compare them to Dante). You might also want to look at DMC's performance as a Jazz player under Sloan/Corbin and then what he was able to do in his 1st season in Atlanta. You know who he credits for improving his game and enabling him to take a leap forward? Not Ty.

At some point, teams have to rebuild. Pick any top team this year and see when their pivotal moments were in building their current roster. Only SA, which has had Duncan, Parker and Ginobili playing together for seemingly forever, seems to have escaped a major rebuild in the recent past.

This made me flashback to how we let Korver, Millsap, and Carroll all walk for nothing.

Ugh.

Jazz need to accumulate more 2nd round picks

Because they're trying to acquire All Star-caliber talent in the draft. That means they have to lose.

Yeah, but remember 46 years ago when Utah drafted 2 HOFs in the teens? That's bound to happen again any time now. It happened twice, so the odds have to be in our favor, I would think.

What I hear from you guys is that the goal of not signing (or keeping) the best available talent is to bottom out and hopefully acquire even better talent via the draft.

Is that about right?

Yet I look at the standings, and watch games all around the league, and note that it does not appear that lines up with the franchise's goals.
Utah currently has the 5th worst record in the NBA. They're a couple games away from having the 10th or so worst record in the NBA. The odds of landing a very high draft pick (Top 3) don't appear to be very high at the moment, especially with other teams (like the 76ers) being way more aggressive with their 'rebuilding.' And in an ideal scenario, if the Jazz somehow do manage to not win very many game going forward (contrasting what we've seen thus far)-- they could very well add another Dante Exum type.

Are we sure the management is actually planning what some of you are assuming? Or are they just inept and cheap?
I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. I'm just emphasizing it. What's the truth? You decide.

Does it? Or does it mean they just have to draft better?
Who's the reigning Finals MVP? Some would say it's Kawhi Leonard.
Others would say it's the 15th overall pick in the draft that many other teams overlooked, including the Utah Jazz (twice) who had him for the taking (Picked Kanter #3 overall, Picked Burks #12 overall. https://www.basketball-reference.com/draft/NBA_2011.html )
