If 22pts-8reb on 13 shots in 27 minutes vs 11pts-4reb in 29 minutes ain't schooling then I don't know what is. Hibbert ate Gobert's breakfast and then some. Hibbert is 20th in the league in scoring among centers, just ahead of Kelly Olynik and Tyson Chandler with whopping 11.6 pts per game.

Not sure if you've watched a lot of the games this year, since your statement above suggests not. Hibbert played extremely well both last game and the first game we played them. He hit some difficult shots and had a great game. Rudy played great D on him for the most part, although Rudy needed to not let Hibbert get as good of position as he did at times. Hibbert scored the ball 8 times. He went 5/9 on Rudy (long jump shot, dunk off of a good pass, Al Jefferson hook shot from the free throw line, running hook, amazing hook shot with Rudy on his lap) and 3/4 on Favors (jumpshot, hook shot in the paint, hook shot from the block). Missed Shots with Rudy: Missed a jumper, missed hook, missed hook, contested jumper; Favors: sweeping hook (blocked). Your statement about Rudy is thus hyperbole. This was simply a learning moment for Rudy and a good game for Hibbert.

I like that his offense seems to be getting better as well. His passing has been very good even though players haven't always converted on them. He's floundered a little with his moves, but he needs to try 2-4 moves per game to develop his offensive game I think.

However, his differential has improved significantly in the last couple of games (Monday they were something like 0.4 and 1.5, IIRC), which does raise him from basically average to above average.

Mark Eaton wasn't really all that great was he? He didn't even play on the offensive end right?

He seemed to gather a decent number of offensive rebounds, but his primary role was to stay outside the 3-point line to draw out a defender and then crash to the hole when the defender was pulled away, IIRC.

Gobert's impact, tbh.

Favors is definitely above average, though. But, yeah, if you're watching the games, then you can't understate the impact that Rudy is having on defense.... statisticians will find these effects in the performance of every jazzman.

That was out dumb friend hugefix. Wish you could have known him, but you were mysteriously absent the whole time he was here. He even tried to wrestle a trout. It was awesome.

Ever since the first time I saw Gobert play last year, I've patiently (see feb post last year) for Jazz management to see that the more he played the better we got. I didn't care if he couldn't make a shot. I still remember Eaton being placed up at half court on every possession just to draw the illegal defense and that took us to the Western Conference Finals. Riley said it best, the talk was what to do about Eaton. Not Stockton or Malone. We didn't get better for years without that kind of force in the center. It wasn't until another long arm (Ostertag) came along after Eaton went past his prime that we got to the finals, along with the consistent play of Stockton and Malone.
Oscar Robertson got no where until paired with the defense of Alcindor. Celtics without Russell. Lakers without Wilt and then Kareem and then Shaq. Pistons without Laimbeer (used dirt to cover lack of talent along with another bruiser)
Favors is great and getting better but he's not at his best at 5...it's 4. It's not just the blocked shots by Rudy. Then the altered shots cause he goes for it without fouling and all the teams know he's going for it. It's not just using his size and length to only stand straight up but knowing when to. Then the knowing where to be on the rebound after the altered shot. Never in all my years watching have I enjoyed watching a center play D more and seeing even his potential offensively.
We need to start fast and early and discourage them from Quarter 1 to keep the other team's confidence down.
If we have already given up on this year being playoff bound and this is more about General Management and next year winning, then I understand starting Kanter. But I believe we can beat them all (we have at least once)when we are shooting well and with Gobert and Favors on the other side. We play 600+ basketball the rest of the way and one or two others falter a bit, we make the 8th seed. Pipe dream? Maybe. But if I knew Kanter wasn't starting the rest of the way out and Gobert and Favors were healthy and getting the minutes, I'd put my kid's allowance up to win 6 figures.
I'll stay on the Gobert bandwagon...only because I believe history is repeating itself.

Rudy is the linchpin that gives this team an actual identity. Him, Favors, and Hayward need to be on the floor as much as possible... we need to know what that looks like. Kanter's contract situation this year and maybe next (could see him signing for the QO) make him hard to trade for a lot of value. If I can get value for him and I'm the Jazz I do it. If not he gets the leftover minutes and if he isn't okay with that he can work harder or leave.

You guys seem to forget he has 2.5 more years on his rookie contract. Also he may get injured.
Benching Kanter means zero chance to resign him, also lower trade value.

I say.... start Kanter until the trade deadline (feb 20). And trade him if any solid offer comes along.
