Violations

If you violate the rules on this page, you have violated the terms of your membership and Jazzfanz has the right to suspend or ban your account after even a single violation.

Normal Moderation Procedures

Warnings: Normally we are more lenient than the single strike policy. In general, when the rules are broken, the moderators will issue an official "warning" to the offending party. A warning requires a “yes” vote from three moderators/administrators.

Warnings come in two forms: a warning without a point and a warning with a point. A warning without a point is just a warning. It is a documented warning that we're asking you to do so something different but doesn't directly go against you in terms of a suspension or bans.

A warning with a point means it will count toward a corrective action. Points accumulate for a period of 180 days before dropping off your record. The number of warning points accumulated within this window, can and will result in suspensions or bans.

Suspensions: Typically you are permitted only two points within a 180 day period. Upon the third point received, you will serve a seven-day suspension. Upon the fourth point, you will serve a 14-day suspension.

Bans: If you get a fifth point in a 180-day period, you will receive a six-month ban. If you are banned, you will not be reinstated prior to this period expiring. This includes your original account and any additional accounts you may create.

NOTE: All warnings (with and without points) are retained for reference and can be seen moderation staff. This means that repeated, uncorrected behavior could result in warnings, suspensions, or bans more quickly.

Additional Guidance

Respect: Members should post in a way that is respectful of other users. Flaming or abusing users in any way will not be tolerated.

Appropriate Content: Members should remember this board is aimed at a general audience. Posting pornographic or generally offensive text, images, links, etc. will not be tolerated. Excessive or graphic sexual innuendo will not be tolerated. Profanity is typically automatically filtered out; circumventing the automatic filter via e.g. creative misspelling will not be tolerated.

Avatars/signatures: Avatars and signatures are a privilege, not a right. If you choose an inappropriate image to use as an avatar or in a signature (as decided by three moderators/administrators), you will receive an official point. If your signature affects the readability of the forum, you will receive a request to change it; failure to do so may similarly result in an official point. If a second avatar/signature point is issued within 180 days, you may permanently lose the privilege of having an avatar and/or signature.

Multiple accounts: Multiple accounts per user are not permitted.

Trolling: Deliberate attempts to disrupt the usability of the boards will be considered trolling. These include (but are not limited to) comments made solely to provoke reactions, bizarre formatting of posts, extremely large images, many new threads started right after each other, signing a negative rep comment with someone else's name, etc. Depending on the severity of the trolling, the single strike policy may be enacted.

Spamming: Accounts set up primarily to post advertising notices, whether or not the items for sale or services offered are related to the Jazz or basketball, will be considered spam. The offending posts will be removed and the user who posted the notices will be issued points as appropriate. On the other hand, similar posts by established Jazzfanz members will not be considered spam, and may be posted to the General Discussion board.

Hot topics: Keep in mind that certain types of discussions tend to provoke strong reactions. These include topics involving race, religion, politics, homosexuality, abortion, etc. These topics can be discussed as long as they are done so without trolling or belittling others. Please take special care in such discussions to not disparage the opinions of others.

Ignore feature: If someone's posts really bother you, you are invited to place them on an "ignore list" so that their posts will become invisible to you. That can be done at https://jazzfanz.com/account/ignored or directly from that user's profile.

Back-seat Moderators: If members note a possible problem, they are welcome to bring it to the attention of a moderator or administrator via a private message. However, members are asked to not act as "back-seat moderators"; please do not make moderation-related comments in board threads. Members who consistently "act" as moderators may receive points.

Unfair Moderator: If a user ever feels he/she is being treated unfairly by a moderator, he/she may contact the JazzFanz.com administrators. This can be done by using CONTACT US link found at the bottom of the page.

Arguing with Moderators: Vehement arguing or abusive comments directed at moderators after having received an infraction may lead to an immediate additional warning with a point.

Websites with restricted access: The posting of links that are designed to circumvent access restrictions to content-providing websites is forbidden. Members may not post or make available on jazzfanz.com any material protected by copyright and subject to access restrictions. The posting of entire articles, or significant portions of such articles, that are within restricted areas is prohibited. Members also may not link to other websites containing unauthorized copies of copyrighted material in order to bypass this restriction. This includes links to NBA games. Members also agree that they will be solely liable and will indemnify jazzfanz.com for any damages resulting from the infringement of intellectual property rights as a result of their submissions to the website. In application, this rule means that you may not post the entire contents, or more than two paragraphs, of an ESPN Insider article. Members in violation of this rule will receive a warning with a point.

Inappropriate Language or Content Linked/Embedded: The posting of links to content external to JazzFanz.com must be appropriate for a JazzFanz.com audience at the first level of the link. Meaning, linking to a YouTube video means that video generally cannot contain extreme language, any nudity, racist remarks, etc. If there's a relatively minor issue with the link, just include a "NSFW" or "Warning: Language" note before your link. That's it. Just warn us! Members in violation of this rule will receive a warning with a point with repeated offenses.
