Karl Malone vs John Stockton

Stockton made everyone around him better and stayed loyal to the end. Malone jumped ship for his selfish ambitions.
 
Obviously both players are amazing, but I would pick Malone. Malone would have the ability to close the game on his own without Stockton on the court. It would be much harder for Stockton to close a game on his own without Malone on the court.
 
John Stockton. It isn't really close imo. He would murder today's NBA. No handchecking, pick and roll with space... it would be great.

Malone may be somewhat neutered with zone rules now, but was a fantastic passer out of the post. I'd love to have either really, but Malone's divaness (it wasn't that bad, but JS was the anti diva) is kind of where I'd draw the line. I just love the steadiness and even tempered Stock. Just did his job night in and night out and you never heard from him.
 
The way the rules of the game have changed I wonder which of these two would foul out fastest.

Valid point... the refs let Chris Paul mug everybody so maybe John would get the same respect.

Game is still pretty physical down low, but with all the floppers Mailman may struggle. He also may get a few more calls though... I remember him and Buck Williams playing and they'd basically let the two wrestler for the whole game.

Would anyone here actually take Prime Malone (swapped with Favors) on this current roster over Prime Stockton (Swapped with Trey) ??

That wasn't the question of the OP.

Obviously Stockton would be better to have on our current team. Even having just having a point guard who can shoot 3 pointers would do us wonders.
 
I don't hate Karl for going to the Lakers, but it is because of this that I would take John. If Karl would have stayed in Utah for two or three more years and stayed healthy he could have delivered a scoring title... The give out NBA titles every year. How often do they give out all time scoring titles? John has the record for most assists and steals by a mile.
