Steve Bannon Quotes

I thought this would be a fun thread. Trump named his top adviser, a guy named Steve Bannon, who is pretty widely known as sexist, racist, and otherwise a nut case.

Some people say he is just getting a reward for helping Trump win the election. He ran Brietbart and made it the most popular place for Alt-Right news. I will post a bunch of quotes from Bannon below. Judge for yourself.

Bannon dismisses the alt-right's appeal to racists as happenstance. "Look, are there some people that are white nationalists that are attracted to some of the philosophies of the alt-right? Maybe," he says. "Are there some people that are anti-Semitic that are attracted? Maybe. Right? Maybe some people are attracted to the alt-right that are homophobes, right? But that's just like, there are certain elements of the progressive left and the hard left that attract certain elements."

He also wrote an edict against birth control and said that, in order to avoid being harassed online, women should “log off.” “Given that men built the internet, along with the rest of modern civilisation [sic], I think it’s only fair that they get to keep it,”

In a 2011 radio interview, Bannon said conservative women complicate the progressive narrative. “That’s why there are some unintended consequences of the women’s liberation movement,” he said. “That, in fact, the women that would lead this country would be pro-family, they would have husbands, they would love their children. They wouldn’t be a bunch of dykes that came from the Seven Sisters schools up in New England. That drives the left insane and that’s why they hate these women.”

FWIW, I know people who identify with alt-Right views who are not white, and, I trust, are not nationalists, homophobic, etc.

He’s spoken out against religious minorities. In a 2007 court declaration, Bannon’s ex-wife said Bannon asked her how many Jewish students attended a school where she was considering sending their children. “He said that he doesn’t like the way they raise their kids to be ‘whiny brats’ and that he didn’t want the girls going to school with Jews,” she wrote. A spokesperson for Bannon denied the allegations. And according to Mother Jones, Bannon frequently stacked his radio show — “Breitbart News Daily” — with guest speakers who decried Islam.

Listen, if you don't want to get offended, just log off. Leave the internet to the real men who invented it and made it so great.

In the same interview, Bannon also argued that "the progressive narrative ... is all about victimhood," and suggested that the push for equal rights for minorities is about unfairly claiming they were being oppressed. According to BuzzFeed, Bannon said,

They’re either a victim of race. They’re victim of their sexual preference. They’re a victim of gender. All about victimhood and the United States is the great oppressor, not the great liberator.

Headline from Brietbart when he was the editor:

"birth control makes women unattractive and crazy"

"your birth control injection will add on pounds that will prevent the injection you really want — of man meat."

-actual quote from the article, written by Yiannopoulis, who Bannon hired and backed while he was with Brietbart.

During Bannon’s reign over Breitbart, the website ran articles referring to conservative commentator Bill Kristol as a “renegade Jew” and Washington Post columnist Anne Applebaum as “a Polish, Jewish, American elitist scorned.” Former Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro accused the site of embracing “a movement shot through with racism and anti-Semitism,” and Bannon’s ex-wife has testified in court that Bannon has “said he doesn’t like Jews” and didn’t want his children to go to school with Jews.

Rumors about who Trump will appoint as advisers and cabinet members are one thing, but this is the first one that has me genuinely concerned for our country. Bannon is reportedly much worse in private than he is in public, and he is pretty ****ing terrible in public.

The people saying that Trump was not racist, misogynist or otherwise prejudiced are losing ground to stand on with every day that goes by.

“Mitt Romney goes to the Republican convention, gives his acceptance speech, people give him a standing ovation, and he doesn’t have the common decency to say one thing about our troops fighting in Afghanistan?” Bannon said. “This is a guy who avoided military duty in Vietnam; who has five sons who look like movie stars who have not served their country one day. Oh, but by the way all of them did their two years of Mormon missionary service — every one of them.”
