It's more to do with Chicago having a roster full of guys that need to be fed and no one to feed them than anything else. I doubt they get a guy in the draft who helps them with that after they slipped in the lottery, and signing Rubio to a fat contract for like a 1 + 1 doesn't really change much imo in terms of their young core being able to grow and learn together while also giving the young guys a coach on the floor who isn't going to make them run suicides the next day if they stuff up, and worst case scenario Rubio doesn't help them win and they get another crack at the lottery with the top 5 picks all up for grabs this time around (I think). How is Chicago a good fit? If I’m them I stay young and learn together. Is he gonna teach them how to win or something?
I don't really get why Rubio would want to do that but I get it from Chicago's standpoint.
