The guys is going to be great. But give him some time. 1st year he'll spend on his body and adapting. Unless the Jazz trades for tank before the season, they should be better.
Chip on the rookie deal? Depends on what supporting cast Suprs will be able to get and how the rest of the teams in the league evolves. I believe the recent changes will increase his chances

Wemby will be special, i have no doubt about that. But in 2 years. Next year we will still be much better than the Spurs.

There are shows on ESPN claiming he is THE best prospect EVER. I would highly disagree
LOL

Um
No.

People are getting way over their skis here. If he’s as good as Durant, it’ll be a miracle. KD couldn’t win anything without teaming up with 3 all stars.

We are talking about prospects not actual players who have played any games. We are talking about a 7-4 or 7-5 player who can dribble shoot on the move go inside and defend the **** out of it who can move too. Not sure we’ve had a player with his potential. They aren’t judging his play just his ceiling. Durant was never thought as the #1 pick. Relax

I mean no disrespect to the OP of this thread, but this is about as silly of a question you could possibly ask at this point.

It’s May. The NBA season isn’t even officially over yet, we have yet to see what the Jazz will do with their 3 first round draft picks, and quite frankly, at this point we don’t have the foggiest idea of what Utah’s roster is even going to look like to tip off the ‘23-‘24 season. So how can we even begin to speculate how the Jazz compare with San Antonio.

Ainge could take this rebuild in any one of several different directions. At first glance, you’d have to think that the one thing we do know for sure is that Laurie/Kessler/Ochai are paramount to Utah’s plans moving forward, but in all honesty, do we even know that?

There’s already rumors out there that Utah “might” be interested in moving up to grab Portland’s pick at #3. Time will tell how valid those reports are, but if the Jazz do end up pulling the trigger on a deal like that, I don’t see how they pull that off without sending back 1 or 2 of our “untouchables”.

I think Duncan was the best guy on a team who won a title earliest in his career… did it his second year in a lockout year. He also joined David Robinson, Sean Elliott, and an established nucleus that became a defensive force. Went to 4 years of college. Wemby isn’t going to be as durable as Tim and isn’t as physically mature. I doubt he wins a title in his first 4 years… even if he’s a super stud.

Magic won his rookie year right?
He did join Kareem and others
But he almost single handedly won that series
He was spectacular

Before my time but yes… different time in the league as well. Also not a one and done guy so a little more mature.

The spurs were much better than their record. They intentionally lost games to get wembi. They will be much better than they were last year. Also the jazz records was way better than the team. How many 1 or 2 point games did the jazz win last year. Way more than they should. That being said i still think the jazz will a better team than the spurs next year but their records will be closer than most believe.

The only way the Spurs have a better record is if the Jazz do something really stupid like trade Lauri.

He could make them a top 5 offense by himself. Plus they have a lot of young talent like Keldo. Johnson,Devin Cassell, and Jeremy Sochan.

Probably a premature thread, but if the Spurs add any halfway decent vets it's pretty easy to see it happening.

Please enter concussion protocol.

Huh? Yeah he was. He just happened to play in the same draft as a potential Bill Russell like player also played. It was still in that weird era where bigs were still valued over skilled players.

Every year they hype is out of line.
In all honesty, the best prospect I’ve seen in my lifetime has been Lebron. The size and skill was just off the charts. He was a mix of Malone and Magic. And that’s exactly what he has been and more. I remember watching that one high school game of his on espn. Remember how that was a big deal? And the man has ****ing delivered.

I think some honorable mentions #1 picks Yao and Drose.
