What's new

What's the point of keeping Lauri anymore?

I don't think you get what ceiling means. It definitely raises the ceiling but it also lowers the floor. It likely make us worse for a bit but the ceiling goes up. There is a reason Hendricks was a lottery pick and that's for his potential/ceiling. Are we likely to see that any time soon? Probably not.
That bit? This season and this team. This is exactly what I said.

My whole argument is based on...
It was based on loudly ("AND LAURI") stating that Lauri's goal is to win a championship. Can you provide any link, article, interview where he has said that?

You were the one who said he would be super happy about making the playoffs.
I didn't. Please don't make up what I've said. All the messages are there.

Here you go. This is what you posted:
What he has actually said, in numerous interviews, is wanting to make the playoffs and compete in them.

So he should be super stoked that we have a good chance at making the playoffs at which point he could compete in them.

I once again come here to apologize for a few of my fellow Finns who don't seem to see the big picture - or are just trolling on purpose.
In somewhat ironic fashion, what they claim to be their carefully processed sentiment, was my exact gut reaction.

For me, the only real disappointment was losing Ochai, who could have stepped up to fill Simones role and thus increase his own trade value. After all, this is only his second season and he showed some promise.

Exactly. Nothing about being "super happy" just to make the playoffs.
Lol
He would be getting what he wants. You think he isn't super happy to get what he wants?

I don't actually trust Danny with that warchest. He treats them chest like a dying man protecting his last cracker, the older Trader Dan gets, the mire protective. I read we have been after decent names past year, and I would guess all of them fell for Danny not using picks. I would even go as far as guessing it would not have been even overpay, but he just wants to rip everyone off
Well then you’re an idiot. And that may sound harsh but it’s accurate. Danny Ainge is the best GM in the league. He’s historically great. Many have him in the front-office GOAT conversation.

This head-canon fantasy of him being senile and vengefully, singularly focused on burning his GM enemies of the past is so ****ing stupid.

It’s like calling Dave Chappelle’s comedy or Paul Thomas Anderson’s films into question because you don’t get it, so must be bad.

Upside is the worst at this, but you could be his vice president at the Bad Takes Club.

Unless Simone is going to get some gargantuan contract i still think trading him was just pointless. Anyway regarding Lauri, if there's anything we know about professional sports NBA included is that nothing stays the same for long. All it takes is one or two signings, a couple of players develop unexpectedly and a team significantly improves reasonably quickly. So i still think it sucks and was a pointless step back trading Simone, i think we'll be pushing into playoff contention within the next year or two with Lauri and then hopefully something happens where we take a big jump 2, 3, 4 years down the track There is every point in keeping a guy this good

I mean we kept Dunn, there were lots of rumors that there were teams that were buyers but none that he was on the market. He has all of the same contractal issues Tec has and plays in front of our most promising youngster at a position we have too many players.

It could have been a Tec thing more than a systemic policy.

Ehh, I don't fully trust Danny either.

So far I think he is best at being unattached to players and making rational decisions on their future. Which is great!

However..... I'm not sure I fully trust Danny's eye for talent. There's also a big difference in developing a contender in Boston vs Utah

And Dave Chappelle's comedy has been mediocre at best the last handful of specials. Ted Talks aren't comedy

I would take Dennis Lindsey back if it meant he drafted for the Jazz. Just give him a mandate he can't draft centers unless they are exceptionally talented. No more trying to recreate your Rudy pick.

Say what you want, but DL was a damn good drafter. He had some bad misses which should have been obvious, but he has drafted so many good players.

I'd be down for this if he also got rid of the Trey Lyles balance test.

I also would prefer not moving up using two good picks to get Trey Burke.
Maybe that was pre DL though

To be fair, he already admitted this thread was a bad idea out of frustration.

We have all been there. I didnt like seeing Simone go, and even Ochai who I liked as a prospect but had given up on a bit. But part of what makes DA good is that he is willing to do the tough decissions.

Doest get all of them 100% correct, but the progress he has achieved in making our roster younger and more talented without deep tanking while maintaining our cap flexibility and building our warchest are undeniable evidence

The more important mandate would be for him to recuse himself from managing the PG position.

I think everyone can pretty much agree that the deals for Rudy & Donovan were absolutely great. But is the roster now more talented vs. the one that started last season? Either you're projecting both Hendricks and Sensabaugh out very, very positively or I'd say no. Simply getting younger is something anyone on this board could achieve. So, the evidence after the big deals is pretty inconclusive so far, I'd say.

The players changed from last year's starting roster:
Conley
Beasley
Olynyk
Vando
NAW
Dok

Collins
Dunn
George
Hendricks
Sensa
Yurtseven
Porter (?)

I might have been trade line overreacting.

Regardless, calling people idiot, is rude, and probably tells more about the person himself.I wish you a happy life.

I know I opened this from frustration, but looking at things how they are... Do we really think there will be enough acquisitions next summer to make sense of holding on Lauri... This roster is now so uncompleted, it might take three seasons to make into playoffs. And players coming in are having decent options, and can affect where the are traded, why choose Jazz? Their reputation is now getting worse with latest moves and FO communication contradicting actions so heavily.

Just.. Let him go compete and tank hard for a while

Agreed, but now Lauri's trade value has taken a hit. They could have ridden KO and the Fonz into the playoffs while making some noise. Let them both walk (or resign) them in the off-season as Lauri's trade value would be at its peak. Instead, Lauri is going to check out and fade away on a team that is going nowhere. It's a bad look. Both for Lauri and this organization that will appear willing to let their stars just fade away here.
