What's new

Jazz waived Kenny Lofton Jr and Darius Bazley

I would expect we are leaving trade options open through August 6 like our own little trade deadline for Maarkanen.

IF we resign, then why not renegotiate his current contract to absorb part of his future salary in a year that doesn't matter so he is cheaper later. Front load the contract with today's space to have more competitiveness in tomorrow's world.

What is the max Lauri can get? $180? $200? $220?

Instead of paying say...

$36 / $38 / $40 / $42 / $44

Why not do:

$50 / $45 / $35 / $35 / $35

That would get us way over the floor and make hopefully more competitive years feel more budgeted and flexible. Not that these are the numbers but capologists out there... could we pull something like this off?

I think that is what will happen.

We are so far below the cap floor that we are either front loading Maarkanen or we work out a trade. Just how much can we front load him?

I just realized that if we front load him then next year at $17 million just goes away. We can't get 6 years with Maarkanen. Still, if you are Lauri, aren't you thrilled to get your bag 1 year earlier? I know your agent is. Paydays always feel great. Plus, your team can be more competitive in the future. Could we give Lauri some rediculous $55 million up front or whatever it takes to get $1 below the Luxury Tax Line?

Also some food for thought on the subject:

$28 million + Lauri's $17 Million = $45 million. Paying him $45 this year would keep us under the salary cap. So maybe the contract is more like:

$45 / $45 / $37 / $36 / $35

If we are willing to go in to Luxury Tax to get him a bigger bag then we could front load more.

They are paying Lauri

Hopefully we're simply taking on a bad contract(s) for picks and Lauri is here to stay.

I am finally catching up on the Vegas summer league games and frankly Bazely looks pretty good. Good decisions. Good athleticism. I think k he got the boot because we have too many young bigs. I can't see any other reason as he came very cheap.

Also, there are a few intriguing free agents. Tyus Jones. Isaac Okoro. Maybe we are saving our pennies to snatch one of them.

Definitely not doing it for free agents. It's either to pay Lauri or for trade reasons. Everyone left on the market who is unrestricted can be had for a portion of the mle or less

Say they give Lauri his bag. Why not sign the UNC Center and UTexas guard that played Summer League to rookie minimum contracts? Most of the time they will be with the Stars but there may be a diamond in the rough with one or both.

Because that are too small for their positions. Which is why they weren’t drafted.
