Was the UK correct to break their own laws to expose the details of a 17-year old suspect?

A few days ago there was a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga class in the UK. A disturbed young man stabbed to death a 9-year-old, a 7-year-old, and a 6-year old girl. It is referred to as the “Southport Stabbings” or “Southport Killings”. Because the “suspect” was underage, the UK has strict laws which forbid the release of any information about the “suspect”.

In the absence of information, the British public believed it was the doing of an Islamic immigrant. Riots are engulfing the UK over the killing of these three little girls. In fear the enraged public would take vengeance on Islamic immigrants in the UK, the government broke its own laws to divulge personal details about the underage “suspect”.

He wasn’t an Islamic immigrant. He was born in the UK to Rwandan immigrant parents. I’m not going to repeat the “suspect’s” name or address but the UK government released all of it. Do you think a government should abide by its own laws? Or should a government simply decide to break its own laws if it believes a greater good is being served?
