So it appears that BYU will be starting a true freshman at QB for the first time in their program history.
Bear Bachmeier looks like he has won the job during fall camp.

Fun fact:
Taysom Hill transferred from Stanford to BYU
Bear Bachmeier transferred from Standford to BYU

Taysom Hill wore jersey #4 and #7 during his career at BYU
Bear Bachmeier wears jersey #47

Taysom Hill was 6 foot 2 inches tall
Bear Bachmeier is 6 foot 2 inches tall

Taysom Hill weighed 225 lbs
Bear Bachmeier weighs 225 lbs.

Just looked this kid up. Jesus, his legs are insane. Like a tank. Kid has to be squatting 450+. Any idea why he only played six games his senior year? How is BYU’s returning offense around him?

Ya his legs are nuts. He missed 8 games with knee injury his senior year. Still put up almost 7,000 passing yards and over 1700 rushing yards in high school to go with 59 passing TD's and 33 rushing TD's. Almost 70% completion percentage. Put up those numbers in his sophmore and jr years mostly since he didn't play basically at all as a freshman and missed the majority of his senior year.

Offense returning is good, possibly great. Lost 3 good offensive lineman. But I think their o-line will be about the same good because they added some studs (one dude transferred from michigan for example). They lost 2 of their top 3 receivers but their number 1 receiver returns and they had some depth so they should be about as good as last year. Their 3 best running backs all return (if one of them gets granted another year, which is expected) but due to some injuries there they are a little thin.

Now, I tried to be honest and objective but I know myself and know that im a glass half full guy so my optimism/hopium/homerism might have seeped in to my evaluation a bit.

No homerism though when I say that this is likely the best defense they ever had. Only weakness on defense is depth behind the starting D-line. I think they may employ a 3-4 defense or even 3-3-5 style defense at times.

Their kicker might be the best in program history as well. He is on a current streak of 16 made field goals in a row (quite a few over 50 yards and a few clutch last second game winners) and he didn't miss a single extra point last season. Their returning punt returner took a couple of punts to the house last season as well.

They retained literally every coach on the team even after last seasons 11-2 year so there is a ton of coaching continuity.

I guess what im saying is go to you local betting location and take the over. I think vegas has byu winning 6.5 games. I feel pretty confident they will start out 5-0. Should be easy money to get to 7 wins.

That’s the type of feedback I wanted!
