Anti-Trump Resistance

Documentary makes the argument that George Orwell’s 1984 is materializing now, in Trump’s second term:

George Orwell's writings warning of the dangers of totalitarian and authoritarian states gave the English language the term "Orwellian." A new documentary called "Orwell: 2+2=5” argues that Orwell's greatest fears are coming true. William Brangham talked with director Raoul Peck about his new film, which is in theaters nationwide.

Facebook post.

They came with costumes, not weapons. It started with the Portland Frog, now the weirdest city in America is dressing up and turning out to fight (and mock) Trump's goons.

We’ve all seen the photo: a giant green frog staring down a line of armored riot cops.
But now he’s back and he brought friends.

Behind him: a unicorn with a bubble gun. A raccoon on roller skates.

A man in a chicken suit, flag cape fluttering, struts past soldiers in riot gear with a deadpan stare. Someone dressed as a capybara doing the Cha-Cha Slide in front of the ICE building.

This is Portland 2025. And it’s hilarious, it's weird, and it's deeply defiant.

The now internet famous Portland Fog—real name Seth Todd—started showing up at protests in a $30 costume after Trump called Portland “a war zone.”

“The best way to show we’re not violent extremists,” he said, “is by being in a frog costume.”

Now he’s joined by a menagerie of inflatable animals, dancing, blowing bubbles, even holding weddings, right in front of federal officers in full riot gear.

Portland’s genius is its absurdity. It flips the fascist aesthetic, black uniforms, rigid order, marching boots, into slapstick theater. Authoritarianism thrives on fear. So Portland responds with joy.

The city that once hosted “Keep Portland Weird” stickers has evolved into something more radical: Keep Portland Human.

Because the opposite of fascism isn’t chaos. It’s creativity. Every unicorn wedding, every bubble gun, every frog shimmying in front of stormtroopers says the same thing: You don’t get to define what resistance looks like.

There’s something profoundly American about that, a reminder that protest doesn’t always have to roar; sometimes it can ribbit.

What’s happening outside Portland’s ICE facility isn’t just comedy, it’s cultural jiu-jitsu. It’s turning power’s own imagery back on itself, exposing how ridiculous tyranny looks under a disco ball.

When the story of this era is told, people will remember not just the cruelty of those who enforced Trump’s will, but the courage, and humor, of those who met them with frogs, bubbles, and the wild imagination of a city that refused to give up its joy.

Keep Portland Weird!

Hey @PJF, you’re not fond of facts, are you? I can see your mind at work: “Ohh! Look what I found! Oh boy, this is great. I got a great ‘gotcha’ I can post”. That Boston crowd photo is very, very real. Maybe you can find a “I love American Fascism” rally you can attend?

Here’s what a fact free @PJF research went with:

And the image was real! 100,000+ plus American patriots turned out for No Kings Day in Boston. I had friends there, while I and other friends enjoyed the rally in Providence.

Great overview of all the garbage you guys fret over.

Have you noticed how all of the hysteria around @realDonaldTrump since the #NoKings idiocy is associated with cosmetic/peripheral issues? His trolling is apparently "non-presidential." @PressSec's responses are "mean." @JDVance is "unbecoming" of a VP. It's exactly what I explained in The Parasitic Mind. The Progressive Invertebrate Castrati class are all about cosmetic appearances. If you are a man who speaks with a progressive lisp and you cross your legs like a woman, this makes you presidential. If you are a "mean troll" like President Trump, you are "unfit" to be president. NEVER are substantive issues tackled. President Trump is an existential aesthetic injury to the Anointed Ones (hat tip to Thomas Sowell for that term). This is the root cause of TDS. If he can be president for two terms, it invalidates their entire identities curated over decades of castrated uselessness.

Exactly- what option do they have when they cant attack policy. They must attack process because they are on the very unpopular side of every issue. I don't believe the folks here will understand what this is saying in the slightest. The height of their intellect is "trump bad", and their favorite rebuttal is "but trump". Its a decade plus of brain rot, doubling down, and sunk cost.

Seriously, no one cares. Just a bunch of bitter hippies with TDS. Funded with Soros money and USAID had to tell them what to say or they sat there like idiots. Dumbest protest in history.

No one? You cared enough to post a 100% lie about one of the rallies. Sounds like the No Kings rallies were living in your head this weekend, if you went through the trouble of finding the first piece of complete BS you could find to dismiss it. Living in your head, are we?

And tell us, Mr. History, what role did the U.S. Agency for International Development(USAID) play in the No Kings rallies??

Would be a shocker to see anything close to 7,000,000 people turn out for a “I love Donald Trump” Day. Never happen.

WASHINGTON — Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., is still speaking on the Senate floor after delivering remarks for more than 16 hours in protest of what he described as President Donald Trump’s "authoritarian" leadership and warning that the republic is facing "the biggest threat" since the Civil War.

"President Trump is shredding our Constitution. Is it okay for masked federal agents to arrest people off the street because of their skin color or their accent? No way, not in a free America," Merkley said in his opening remarks around 6:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

The Democratic senator went on to rebuke the Trump administration for other actions, including weaponizing the Department of Justice to attack his political opponents, including former FBI Director James Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James and Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and canceling research grants to universities in an attempt to gain control over what can be taught.

On Wednesday morning, the Oregon Democrat said he wanted the public's takeaway from his comments to be that "Tyranny has already arrived. It is not down the street. It is not around the corner. It will not be encountered on the path tomorrow. It is here at this very moment."

He argued that "tyranny comes in two forms," including "the attack on freedom," and he said the disappearance of "the fundamental separation of powers."

"Suddenly, you have the three elements that create tyranny in place of freedom, or authoritarianism in place of a republic," he said. "And those are a rubber-stamp Congress, a deferential court, and an aggressive authoritarian personality with a good plan."

A Merkley aide said Tuesday that the senator is expected to go as long as he can. His speech comes months after Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., delivered marathon remarks for 25 hours and 4 minutes, breaking the record for the longest floor speech in Senate history.

Merkley's speech comes days after people turned out across the country Saturday for protests against Trump and his administration at No Kings rallies. Since the beginning of the president's second term, Democrats have faced blowback about not doing enough to counter Trump. In interviews with NBC News, Democratic demonstrators at the No Kings rally in Washington, D.C., were still conveying that same frustration with leaders in their party.

Several members of the Democratic caucus have cheered Merkley on through social media.
