Well, I guess that tweet squashes all the rumors.

Sources very close to the Utah Jazz (me) verify that Kevin O'Connor is not stepping down as EVP of Basketball Operations.
So, is this a non story? How are they going to retract this one if he does step down?

I'd be more excited if Ty was moving to a consultant's role. There's more to this story than what is being reported. Sounds like there was a power struggle and the heir apparent won due to the team's lack of success over the past couple of years. Undoubtedly, KOC going 0-3 with the FA's/trades likely hastened his dismissal, I mean voluntary exile.

This post wins the trolling award so far...

Lindsey isn't getting promoted. He was GM and he is still GM. A figure of influence is just leaving. KOC is an old *** dude and is probably tired of all the work that comes with being a GM. I think he had this in mind when he switched over to President. He probably wanted to see what it would be like, probably found that he still found himself doing too much work and is tired.

I see this as just himself removing himself from any kind of position of final authority, and simply one as an opinion guy if wanted.
Remember hoe KOC was always stuck on this ridiculous "retooling" idea?

Has anyone else noticed that Lindsey has said a few different times that the Jazz are "rebuilding" and that they have skipped some important steps?

Sounds like retooling sucks.
Perhaps, Cy. That could have happened. Yes, Lindsay was the GM in title because that was the only way he could be hired away from San Antonio. Had Utah tried to bring him in as the Assistant GM, SA could have refused. Since it was a "promotion," SA had to grant permission for an interview and the right to break his contract with the Spurs. But KOC was still in charge. He was the one who signed the FA's. I agree, Orangello, the "retooling" failed miserably. KOC brought in some vets to lead the way while stunting the growth of the youngsters and Mo, Foye and Marvin were failures. Giving Al and Paul all those minutes, with the hope of either making the playoffs or turning them into valuable trade assets: FAILURE with a capital F. Perhaps KOC stepping aside makes it easier for real change to occur. KOC was the one who hired Corbin, had the love-fest when Mo was signed and declared his...and the Jazz' undying love for Williams. Now, if the Jazz fail to re-sign Mo, fire Corbin, etc., it can be put on Lindsay. And the Jazz organization saves face by Miller telling everyone Dennis is now in charge and any promises were made under the old regime.

yea, so I'm an arse this morning. Shouldn't have done it.

Greg never twitters about the jazz. Race track, cars, employees, but never Jazz. It saddens me because his dad was passionate to a flaw about the team.

He tweeted this morning but not a word about KOC or the team. What greg really tweeted this morning.

Statement from Utah Jazz President Randy Rigby
SALT LAKE CITY (May 1, 2013) – The following is a statement from Utah Jazz President Randy Rigby:

Media reports of Kevin O’Connor’s departure are inaccurate and he is not stepping down. He is fully engaged in Jazz preparations for draft season. The working relationship between Kevin and Dennis Lindsey is unchanged as both individuals provide valuable expertise, knowledge and perspective toward building a championship-caliber team. Kevin will be a member of the Jazz family for a long time. No further comment is needed.
