At dribbling. He had an explosive first step and could blow by his defender off the dribble. But maybe I'm underrating Stockton's dribbling ability, idk
PGs in the 70s weren't toddlers who could barely dribble. They had skills too. Watching Stockton, I don't think he was any better at dribbling than Magic or Oscar Robertson (I think those two were better).
He was the first player to have modern dribbling skills. And it was a while before we started seeing more PGs like him. For example, Stockton, who is an all-time great PG, still dribbled like PGs in the 70s, unlike IT with his amazing crossovers and footwork.
