Fair or unfair, the economy won't get back on track before the pandemic is largely contained. If you agree, then what is the best path for containment? It isn't opening the economy imo.

We are not immune and there is no vaccine. The crashing economy is devastating, but until the government gets a handle on the spread of the virus, the economy is going nowhere.

People will not always take the appropriate precautions though. In an open society, more people will get the virus, spread the virus, and die. This will worsen the pandemic for a longer period of time than if we isolate.

I agree with this. The risk of going out is not only a risk to yourself, but to others as well. Carriers can infect others before any symptoms show themselves. Spreading the virus will only lengthen and deepen the pandemic.

So what does a reopening look like to you?

I don't like the economy crumbling as we sit at home, waiting this out either. But people are not fine. More than 1/3 of the Tyson employees at the their largest meat packing plant have tested positive. Ordering them back on the job is absurdly unjust. Same goes for every other frontline...

Opening up means putting those who make the least with the worst access to healthcare on the front lines, risking their lives for your convenience.

Hard to say and safe for who? I'm not sure what opening up again even looks like. If it means opening up as nothing even happened, I'd say after the coming winter's flu season. A vaccine may come before then, or one may never come at all.

Most of the unemployed are making a living. $600 per week plus their weekly unemployment benefit. Many of these people will make less per week if they go back to work while taking on the health risk of a front line worker that they didn't have before. Bad deal for them. So who will benefit from...
