Totally. I don't feel torn about leaving either. If we don't use that cap space, best case we keep Hill and Ingles. Probably a 3 seed ceiling. I can pass on that if I am Hayward.
Let's point on why Hayward probably hasn't committing to Boston
1) Does he know if he really wants to play with IT?
2) Does he know if Butler/George are actually going there? That has to weigh into it.
3) Does he know they won't make a play for someone that will make it impossible to sign...
That's the real question now. The two places I saw over paying him were Brooklyn and Philly. With them gone, I have no idea where he would go. I thought he seriously might get 25/year. I wouldn't be surprised now if it was closer to 15.
Almost all of us want to Hayward to stay. But there are some things he isn't doing that I wish he would do(assuming he wants to stay)-
1) Be verbally committed to the Utah Jazz. I felt like he has had the opportunity to say "I want to stay" or even "I see myself staying here". He hasn't...
The main thing that bothers me about Hayward that bothers me is that he could at least say he wants to be back. His words and body language haven't been encouraging. George Hill at least said he sees himself in Utah next year. Joe Ingles has been pretty adamant he wants to be back.
That...
Ha. I thought they might be hard core lefties because their daughter's name is "Bernie". Who knows? Gordon could be super liberal and Robyn could be the right winger.
Maybe. But Utah hasn't hit it's ceiling yet. OKC had hit their's when KD left. The went to finals then never went back. They had lost Harden. They weren't going to get better. Utah still can.
Jazz are improving. Every big star that has left their team was tired because they had hit a ceiling of some kind. KD felt the Thunder weren't getting better. Lebron left Cleveland because the Cavs weren't getting better. When other all stars had left it was usually because they felt under...
I just remember that shooting seem to be the concern about him. His college FG % was 45%.
Anyway if we didn't know then, we know now. NBA Field goal percentage by year 38%, 36%, 41%, 45%. Awful.
It seems to me different positions are busts for different reasons.
A wing/guard that can't shoot(Trey Burke) has a low ceiling. Looking back, we knew he couldn't shoot. What were we thinking?
Bigs are tougher to judge. They need heart. I don't know how you measure that. Rudy's got it...
The ironic thing about this entire post is that I don't think Gordon Hayward is really what Boston really needs. He would be a great add no doubt but they NEED an elite rim protector. Someone who will make it harder for Kyrie/Lebron just to drive and get layups.
I know a guy, but at least...
The first thing I thought when I saw most of the pictures was it was for Gordon to show "Hey Gordon look at all the guys who careers ended after they left Utah."
Holy cow we have a lot of Jazz men who have also played for Washington.
The only was I do it is if there is no one else available and it's instrumental to signing Hayward. If Hayward indicates to us he is gone then I say goodbye to Hill. I am not paying George 25 million+ to win 40 games.
Okay, for someone not in the loop on me I need this explained to me.
I thought players/agents couldn't talk to teams until July 1. It wasn't clear to me if the original team could before then. Maybe this is one of those rules that no one follows.
I guess I don't know. Maybe if there is no obvious replacement you resign yourself to the fact that you are going to resign hill for a lot. I don't love it, but it may be the best we can do.
