Early pulse check on offseason expectations

I'm somewhere between the second and third option. I would like to see us trade Clarkson, sweeteners and picks for a player who would be good enough to be a starting five player on a championship team. Maybe even the third best player, in the category of Mikal Bridges. Of course, the deal would...

The Rest of the Season Plan - Kind Of

I don't really think so. I don't think that we will see particularly big moves in the summer, unless really good opportunities open up. Clarkson's contract is an attractive piece to trade from the summer, and in the summer of 2025, hopefully, there will be no need to make desperate moves to get...

The Rest of the Season Plan - Kind Of

I don't mind if we get a little worse in the short term. What bothers me is that we lost the structure of the team. Without Tech there are no good options to go 5-out, unless Hendricks' game magically matures over the weekend or the 2022 version of Otto Porter Jr. makes a comeback. For the rest...

How are you feeling about John Collins?

This post is more about our lineup structure than John Martin Collins III himself. In general, I really like our 5-out lineup. It really gives us the stepping stones on how to be a lethal force on the offensive end. The problem is, we don't have enough quality players to close out games. In the...

    Potential Trade Targets

He is still pretty good on-ball and transition defender. It's the off-ball stuff that bugs me. I used to think he had decent defensive instincts.

Yeah, I don't disagree. In a long run, I just don't think we can maintain our flow of offense and play Sexton and Clarkson together for extended stretches. Hopefully they prove me wrong.

What was funny, at the OT Houston ran similar off ball action for Jabari, we've ran for Lauri since day one. We defended those situations poorly, so they basically killed us with our own weapons.

I had to re-watch the last 5 minutes of the 4th and OT. Sexton had just scored 7 consecutive points but after that those last three minutes of the regulation were really bad decision making. The first three minutes of OT were better. - Pass to Kessler led to free throws - Baseline inbound =>...

The clutch will be a great learning experience for Sexton. Jabari Smith was basically face guarding Lauri the whole 4th quarter and OT which helped Collin put more pressure on the rim. There were moments when Houston's defense made him a little hesitant whether to shoot or pass at the rim, and...

"The results are still awful whenever he's playing." That's not even remotely true. As @HermanG implied, the five out lineup doesn't work against certain teams, and whenever that happens, John has been a huge liability for the team. On the flip side, in some games the line up has been either...

    Collin Sexton SZN

What I really enjoy about Collin's game is that he doesn't settle for jump shots anymore. He can be Sonic the Hedgehog and fly by his defenders or he can take it slow and bully "smaller" defenders such as 6'6'' Taurean Prince, but he really utilizes all that space our five-out line up offers.

AD also posted up way less at the second half.

That was really fun to watch. Great stuff from Hardy once again. At the first quarter Collins was guarding AD and Jazz sent Tech to double him. Overall defensive effort really wasn't there, but either way, AD had no issues to find open guys over the doubles. At the second quarter Hardy put...

Lauri Markkanen Hype & Appreciation Thread

I agree that his overall defense has improved. However, last season Lauri played more as a primary defender against the league's elite 3s and he was actually pretty decent in that role. The sample size is smaller this year, but it seems that Lauri has had more challenges to stay in front against...

You are mixing up the plays. There was 11:20 left in the second quarter when Hardy took Keyonte out. It didn't happen after a turnover, it happened after a made free throw by Clarkson. Keyonte had all the time in the world to find his man, but he got completely lost. He wasn't doing ok at that...

    Walker Kessler Bench Appreciation Thread

Yet Rudy plays with McDaniels and Ant, Jokic with KCP, Brook had Jrue when they won.. I'm not saying that perimeter D isn't Walkers biggest weakness defensively. It's overemphasized because the Jazz doesn't have good enough PoA defenders. And yes, Dunn and Walker are not an optimal pairing on...

    Walker Kessler Bench Appreciation Thread

If the Jazz were in a playoff series, Walkers perimeter D wouldn't be the first thing that would be exposed. On the other hand, play Walker with elite PoA defenders who actually know how to navigate screens, and suddenly Hardys job becomes a lot easier.

Pros: + Our starting five (or any lineup with Dunn, Sexton, Lauri and Walker) were pretty competitive against their starting five. Although Valanciunas helped a lot by killing any momentum they were about to have. + Herb didn't give Lauri anything for free, but Lauri still contributed until the...
