We don't know what Boston is going to do. There is more noise than I thought there would be on aiming for a retool/tank dip from Boston people. And yes, they are just trying to get out of Holiday while saving face which Sexton is kind of perfect for.
(this is the difference between "white boy" athleticism and real athleticism in a lot of instances. I say that because it feels like white players have the highest hit rate of being "surprisingly athletic" based on their max vert which you can train for, gut out, and also sandbag your standing...
This is probably more important than max vert or the other max athletic measurements. Functional athleticism is about how quickly a person can execute movement (either as initiator or in reaction) 95% of the time.
On the one hand, I think the key that unlocks the possibility of getting to the rim more in the NBA vs NCAA is high-level athleticism. On the other hand, it appears Tre (purposely) flubbed his standing reach measurement which gave him an artificially high vertical measurement.
To be clear, I wasn’t necessarily saying VJ didn’t have star potential. That’s what makes drafting him that early sensical, it’s just that his “floor” is being an athletic junkyard dog with a workable jumpshot.
Of the players we could send in the general Sixers framework proposed, I think I’m more partial to Lauri + 5 for PG + 3 + 2028 Clips 1st because if we’re getting Ace, we should also have one of his heroes there to guide him to better basketball habits.
Just thinking out loud: VJ is probably the one guy in our range that would fit in on both OKC and Indiana. I think there’s something to the idea that we might be entering an era that is as much about minimizing weaknesses and depth as it is about star power.
I am concerned that Tre is just a...
Losing out on a top-8 pick in a good draft when you don’t have anything resembling “The Guy” could well be catastrophic. Our young guys don’t look like candidates because there are maybe 30 at most of them in the league. Being terrible for another year may or may not be terrible for these...
At least until we no longer owe OKC a lightly protected pick. That’s one more season. The rest of your question (“what’s the plan?”) is everpresent for every organization.
Haven’t finished, yet, loving it so far.
Let us all hold hands and pray that Austin didn’t mean what he said or the org is devoted to cashing in our chips (our winning players).
