They still have 10 games against tanking teams and two games at the end of the season against good teams that will likely rest their players. If the Jazz manage to start tanking seriously then the Pels will pass them.
Also, the Jazz will play New Orleans three times.
Flip saved the tank by covering Vucevic from a non-existent threat in the front. And that is the problem with Flip playing the center. Its not just that he is unathletic and has short arms - he is also slow in processing where he needs to be on defense when people are moving fast.
But have you considered their likely competition in the potential play-ins? The Bulls, Hawks, Bucks... Their mental stamina is in the same tier but they have much less talent on the court. The Cavs will advance.
Folks are dreaming about the Cavs falling in the lottery... except they won't. The Cavs are consistently losing a half of their games, but so is everybody else in the East. They will be sitting in this 5-8 range forever.
I actually think that Hardy overdid it a bit. He put out a starting five where the only scoring threat and the only playmaker was Keyonte. That is putting a tremendous amount of pressure on your young point guard. There was nobody else among the starters who could even dribble or bring the ball...
In the last 6 games Cody got 5 FTs twice. That matched his career-high posted almost a year ago. He is much more aggressive now. Cody is getting visibly better literally every game.
At 36 MPG Lauri plays more minutes than most of the NBA stars. He has also missed only 5 games, way below average for stars players. The Jazz can easily play him a bit less without any repercussions.
For what it is worth the Jazz' strength lays into attracting and maximizing quiet European players (AK, Memo, Lopez, Lauri, Bojan, Gobert). They have exactly zero experience in dealing with American-born divas who burned bridges with their teams.
Opposing players shoot 15% higher than expected when defended by Anderson. This is the worst defended % differential in the entire league for any player who played non-negligible minutes. This differential is much, much worse than what (supposedly horrible defender) Keyonte has.
Anderson has...
Now with AD getting injured the chances that Dallas goes full-speed into the tank are very, very high. Washington seems to have already entered it as by trading two key veterans. And the Jazz are soon having two more games against Dallas: if they win them Dallas is likely going to clinch the...
So why is his own team ready to dump Zion for free even though "he's in better shape"? And why are other teams not fighting to drive his price up from "free" if there is not much risk?
Is Zion's maturity in the room with us? If so, it is hiding very well!
And B-tier organizations do not seriously consider a Hail Mary-type of projects that MAY turn out well based on luck and never-before-seen maturity. The B-tier organizations have a much clearer path to success by tanking...
