I guess it depends on what you mean by "deeper than that." Donaghy was probably not the only referee in the history of the NBA to bet on games, and the league obviously bears some blame, organizationally speaking, for allowing it to go on as long as it did. On the other hand, I'm not convinced...
Well, that’s what we have evidence for and at the end of the day that’s what the scandal amounted to. Even if the rot was actually deeper than that, the league was able to sweep it under the rug by pinning it on Donaghy. I don’t think they could run that same playbook on a lottery rigging...
Yes lol, there is an ocean of difference between a rogue referee influencing games he’s gambling on and the league rigging their supposedly impartial draft lottery as a standard practice.
I really don't know, but it could have been this maybe?

That’s definitely not the only reason. I can assure you the Lakers would have found a way to get that deal done without Utah being involved if necessary.
Right, my only point was that it’s ****ed up that the league incentivizes their fans to prefer outcomes like tonight over the alternative.
It takes a lot of the fun out of being a fan. Rooting for losses is soul sucking, and you can’t really enjoy a win without constantly being reminded about...
It was pretty obviously implied.
Ok, so we agree then. Of course that world doesn’t actually exist, it was a hypothetical.
To be clear, this is also what I want. My original post was intended to bemoan the perverse incentive structure the league has built, not call out people who are pro tank.
Vs losing the pick? Absolutely those fans exist. They’re the ones panicking in game threads/on social media every time the Jazz have a lead in the fourth quarter.
