You win the thread. I would have had a hard time not hooking a chain to it and dragging it out the way.

The Biden Administration and All Things Politics

I think this will become quite the serious question in a decade or so. There simply aren't enough assets on the worldwide exchanges for everyone to own enough at reasonable valuations. Multiples will continue to expand and we'll all be asking how high is to much to pay for future income. But...

This is a lot of it. Savings went negative sometime before 2008. 2005 maybe? Savings are also up in younger demographics. This might be because of all the 401k matches.

I think you'd be surprised. IIRC, household savings is at all time highs by many metrics. The rate of savings has been in a long increase trend for quite some time. According to the OECD, US is right around the developed world average. I was surprised that Japan's was about half ours...

Anybody know how to disable chrome's tab grid layout permanently? I'm going to have to find a new browser. 1. //flags doesn't work. First, it is set to default and when I disable it the layout is enabled after relaunch. Then, I switch back to default and for who knows why it will then...

That's my plan too, although it may not be Hawaii. Hey, the expanded child tax credit also passed and kiplingers says 50% up front. It's an extra $1600 for kids under 6, $1000 over 6 up to 17.

Nice! I want to go over spring break but I'm too nervous about passing the covid test within 72 hrs prior. My luck one of us will finally contract it. Also 40, never been.

The Minimum Wage and Hourly Rates Thread

I've read similar studies over the years. One claimed only 3.2% work for minimum wage, and only 14% of families on govt assistance have a minimum wage worker. Now, the obvious problem with that one was not adding a higher tier, say up to $10/hr or so, so we get a broader picture. These...

Whatever happened to Biden and the Democrats promises to get a full stimulus bill passed without delay? People need this money right now and can't wait, remember? Theyve had full control for how long and can't pass something that's been sitting around on their desks for a year? I'm tired of...

We have EITC and a laundry list of programs that address this. Is there really a good argument that raising minimum wage to a living wage is better than targeting welfare where needed? EITC, child tax credit, daycare tax credit, SNAP, housing assistance, utility assistance, all targeting...

    Fixing Donovan

Donovan McChuck is going to shoot Utah out of a lot of games. I've decided to live w it and enjoy the show. Chances are he shoots Utah out of the playoffs at some point, then it's on to the Rockies and no pitching.

The Minimum Wage and Hourly Rates Thread

The only reason it's ever an issue is because we have two parties who need to permanently fight to keep their bases divided and votes coming in. I bet if you polled, over 80% would support a back adjustment to, say, the '97 raise and then index it. "Well, duh" would be the overwhelming...

Ask the people who live here what all the help wanted signs say. Most low wage employers have been posting jobs above the federal minimum for a decade. One example from college kids I know working at a Chevron station make about $15/hr plus about $5500/yr in tution reimbursement. I think...

And yet living standards are far superior to what they were back then, which isn't possible with stagnant real wages. IMO the explanation for this is inflation is vastly overstated. We'll probably look back in 50 years and think we were crazy for measuring it the way we have been. Also...

The Minimum Wage and Hourly Rates Thread

Since somewhere around $12/hr is the effective minimum wage in Utah, a law of $11.50/hr wouldn't change many jobs at all. Those working for less than $12/hr here should get a charitable deduction on their taxes.

The Biden Administration and All Things Politics

The minimum wage increase isn't being included because they are using some budget process that requires a simple majority vote to pass. Minimum wage doesn't meet the requirements so the D's would have to work with R's to get anything through.
