Will be Media Day which is followed by training camp.

Nobody has worn #1 for the Jazz. The Jazz retired the number to honor Frank Layden, who was the first coach in Jazz history to lead the team to a winning record and playoff berth.

At #1 in the all-time Jazz ranks:

Games: John Stockton (1504)
Minutes: Karl Malone (53479)
Points: Karl Malone (36374)
Rebounds: Karl Malone
Assists: John Stockon (15,806)
Steals: John Stockton (3265)
Blocks: Mark Eaton (3064)
3PFGs: John Stockton (845)
FTs: Karl Malone (9619)
Win Shares: Karl Malone (230.3)

We've talked about him in a couple of these countdown threads, but Pistol Pete Maravich was essentially the first player in Jazz history. Prior to the 1974 expansion draft the Jazz agreed to acquire Maravich in exchange for draft picks and the first guard and forward the Jazz would select in the expansion draft.

Scotty Robertson was the first head coach of the Jazz. Unfortunately, he only coached the team through 15 games, with just 1 of those being a win. The first win in franchise history was on November 10, 1974 against Portland. The Jazz won by a point. Robertson would later be the head coach of the Bulls for part of 1 season and coach of the Pistons for 3. He passed away in August 2011.

In their first season (1974-75), The Jazz were #1 in pace and personal fouls, although it's generally not considered good to have more PFs than any other team. The Jazz lost their first game of the season. As mentioned in my last post, the first win in franchise history was on November 10, 1974 with the Jazz winning by 1 point. Walt Bellamy played one game for the Jazz and John Block recorded 1 block for the team that year.

EDIT: I'm slipping up. The Jazz went 0-3 when playing on the 1st and 1-0 in games decided by 1 point.

In their first season in Utah (1979-80), the Jazz were #1 in the league in FT%. Unfortunately they were only 19th in FTs and 21st in FTAs (out of 22 teams). The Jazz lost their first game of the season and went 1-1 when playing on the 1st. In games decided by one point, the Jazz were 1-2.

This guy is the #1 betrayer in Jazz History.
