No player has worn #28 in a regular season.

Rafael Araujo played in 28 games in 2007. He was aquired by the Jazz for Kris Humphries who has played in 8 NBA seasons and won't turn 28 until next February. Arujo's last NBA game was April 18, 2007. He scored 8 pts and grabbed 5 rebounds (probably off the floor) in 17 minutes of play. Kris humphries was one of only 5 players to average atleast 10 pts and 10 rebounds for the past 2 seasons, the others: Kevin Love, Dwight Howard, Blake Griffin, Pau Gasol.

Today is the Salt Lake City Jazz festival.

Did you know that some people called for the Jazz to change their name when the franchise moved to Utah because it was offense?

Some were offended by the Jazz keeping the franchise name after moving from New Orleans, citing it as a metaphor for the theft of Jazz from its cultural roots. Author David Halberstam pointed out in his classic book "Breaks of the Game" that using the name "Jazz" was discordant considering the views that the Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints had long held regarding African-Americans, who had pioneered that genre of music in the U.S.

Did you know that owner Sam Battistone held a contest to rename the Jazz when he moved the team to Utah? They had several entries but decided not to change the name. Why?

"The names that came in, nothing seemed to fit," Battistone said. "I think probably more people in New Orleans were concerned about it than people in Utah."

Three of the options: Utah Briny Shrimp, Utah Saints (turned down because people in New Orleans were already mad at Utah), and Utah Stars (name was not available).

Also appropriate, Scott Layden was 28 years old in 1986 when he drafted Dell Curry for the Utah Jazz. At the time he was an assistant coach but was responsible for the draft. He is credited with drafting both statues, but also drafted Jose Ortiz and Eric Leckner. In 1989 Layden moved off the bench and into the front office to be a full-time director of player personel. Jerry Sloan hired Gordon Chieasa to take Scott Layden's place on the bench.

kaniel dickens was drafted 50th overall by the jazz in 2000, but never played for the franchise. he would go on to play (and wear #28) for the blazers and nets, as well as the davs where he wore 45.

the night i turned 28, the jazz lost on the road to the portland trail blazers after giving up 28 4th-quarter points.

karl malone averaged exactly 28.0 points per game when he was 28.

The Jazz' first ever draft pick was the 28th pick of the '74 draft, which was held May 28th. Aaron James. He had 28 steals his fifth and final year in the league, all with the New Orleans Jazz.

Jazz also drafted more well known guys with the 28th pick, some guys named Scott (air in the ball) Padgett, and Greg (Who's the Gipper) Ostertag.

Dang, expansion teams didn't even get a first-round pick back then? Harsh.
