In this draft i really wanted wiggins and was ok with the jazz giving up core pieces and just about whatever it took.
Bad news, we didn't get him

Good news, we still have a young promising core group of players.

I really like how the nba has a 4 year rookie deal in place. I think that is a good amount of time to have a player and develop them and then have a good idea of what to pay them for thier second deal (typically a pretty big raise)

I think before last year (after year 3) we had some expectations for what we thought favors and hayward would be and after thier 4th year i think we have a much better idea.

Hayward: after year 3 i think some people thought he might be as good as a first option like chris mullen, or peja stojakovich. Other thought he could be a great sidekick like a jeff hornacek. Might even have been some who thought he would be no better than james jones.
After year 4 i think we can safely say that he is more along the lines of nicolas batum, who is a bit overpaid imo, so we should pay him batum money MAX but probably a bit less.

*Favors: after year 3 some people (myself included) though favors would be a mix of chandler and amare, or antonio mcdyss. others were thinking maybe jermaine oneal.
After year 4 i was very disappointed with favors season and he is looking more like a robin lopez type (though a bit better) and im glad we didn't offer him more than we did.

Now we are coming up on year 4 for alec burks and enes kanter. Im hoping that they get similar minutes to favors and hayward from last year and we are able to learn as much as possible about these two before giving them thier next deals. (if we decide to)

Burks: will he deserve young d-wade money, demar derozan money, jamaal crawford money, or is he just nick young/cj miles. This is the year to find out imo.

**Kanter: Is he gonna produce like kevin love, or is he more nikola pekovic, or will he never be better than jj hickson? This is the year to find out.

*favors has very good size and athleticism and it is said that bigs take longer to develop so i think he, more than any of the other core guys, still might shock us with major improvement.

**Again, bigs sometimes take longer to develop, and he didn't get college ball, had injuries, blah blah blah, but i still think that if he gets big time minutes this season we should have a very good idea of how much he is worth.

I really hope to see a young, exciting, fast team with more brains and creativity from the coaching staff next year.

This is why I agree with others that don't want to add middle of the rung free-agents. I want to let these kids play it out and see what we have.....again.....but, like, for realsies.

Just continuity alone will make the unit better, IMO.

All signs point to Burks making another leap. I wouldn't be surprised if he warranted DeRozan money. Can't we extend him this summer though?

fwiw my feeling after each players 3rd year.

Hayward: i thought he would be as good as prime hornacek and make an all star game or two.
Favors: I thought he would be as good defensively as chandler with alot better offense and be one of the best bigs in the game, making multiple allstar appearances.
Burks: I think he will be a better player than derozan (more efficient, better passer and rebounder, similar scorer) and not as good as D-wade. (never very likely, d-wade was an all time great) Maybe like monta ellis but better.
Kanter: He is the most confusing one for me. I once thought he was going to be very very good. Now im hoping he will be as good as pekovic.

I hope burks and kanter get a really good opportunity to show us what they can do.

I would give Hayward $10 million and Burks $7 million right now.

Thats about right imo. I think that is about what they each have shown to be worth so far.

After burks 4th year i expect him to be worth much more though if he gets the type of minutes hayward got in year 4

Hopefully they extend burks this summer for around 7 million per year...... i think that would end up being a steal in a couple of years

I really had extremely high hopes for favors. As much of a burks homer as i am, i always thought favors would be our best player.
I was blinded by his size and athleticism and didnt pay attention to his lack of passion, motor, heart, drive/hunger.

That is what i loved about aaron gordon in this draft. He might not be the best player but im confident that he will put in the work to use every bit of his potential.

I hate seeing guys squander thier potential.

Hopefully exum is a hard worker with a huge motor

I still think Favors has another rung or two on the ladder of progress. Ever since he's been here it has been clear that the organization is treading water. This year, on the contrary, I think everyone is going to feel the forward progress and be a bit more engaged. This'll be even more true if the Jazz target some free agents they want and start actually playing for something. That'll get more out of everybody, but I think that's especially true of Favors.

He has shown up for big games. Give him more big games.

I like the optimism

Jazz have enough young talent to field two teams. Let them play and then sort out the real talent and trade the good talent to bring in an above average vet or two in a couple of years. No more rent a vet and making young guys earn it. Play the best players and develop your talent.

I have my doubts about Favors and I question his motor and mind more than anything. I think he has a lot of talent but he needs to step it up this year and demand the ball. Get in guys face a little. I just don't know if he has the personality. I am glad he is on the team. I didn't want to gut the team but I would have done the Favors + #5 but I am now glad we didn't.

I hope the Jazz can work out extensions for both Alec and Kanter before they decide to go on the market. I don't want to overpay for them and Right now I still consider them a core part of the team. I think Alec is going to explode this year so I would definitely wrap him up in the $7-8 million range. Kanter I would do the $9-10 million range both bargains if these two become what I think they can become. If Exum and/or Hood explode and become all-star level players than you can always move one of the Core5 because they have decent contracts and have market value.

The biggest challenge for the Jazz is keeping these guys together or making the right decisions on who to keep and what to pay them. The Jazz front office has a lot of work ahead.

This, Bodhi my alt. Moreover, you seem like you are also almost as handsome as I am, with that rugged unshaved Patrick Swayze look.

I'd be surprised if Burks extended for that much money. He'll play this year for more cash, and he'll probably get it.

This is a real threat to team chemistry, if Alec tries to pad ppg stats to get a big contract. Quin should tell him that the way to earn PT is unselfishness, intense team defense and assists with drive and kick. With advanced analytics, simple ppg won't get him the best deal, anyway. Hope he knows that.

My theory that I'm most likely completely wrong about - last year, the Jazz FO felt the need to bring in veterans because they had no clue what they had in Kanter and Burks due to them not playing basically at all the first two years and Burke because he was a rook. This season, each of the core five players have played extensive minutes and they know what they have - they can only improve on what they did last season. Therefore they will be more willing to sit tight and let they youngsters play it out.

/optimism.
