Kathmandu, Nepal (CNN)A 7.8 magnitude earthquake centered less than 50 miles from Kathmandu rocked Nepal with devastating force early Saturday, killing at least 806 people -- and probably more -- in Nepal's capital city, authorities said.Afterwards, historic buildings in Kathmandu lay in rubble. The injured wound up being treated outside hospitals in chaotic scenes. Residents, terrorized by a seemingly endless series of aftershocks, huddled outdoors for safety.
The death toll was reported by Nepal's Ministry of Home Affairs. But given that the rescue effort is still in its early stages and that people in outlying areas may well have been affected, as well, it seems probable the number will rise.

I say we invade. Shock and Aw.

That's what usually Gameface/Stoked threads involve. Teach that earthquake that we aren't going to let it terrorize us. Shock and Aw baby.

The quake was strong enough that it triggered avalanches on Everest. This region is prone to some pretty strong quakes. The Indian plate is smashing north into the Asian plate.

Are you kidding me? Show me a post I've made that is pro-American interventionism.

I've changed. I may have made posts like that pre-crash, but since this version of Jazzfanz I'm pretty sure I haven't.

Death toll already doubled since you posted that. That place looks a nightmare in normal conditions looking at the Google images of the city, couldn't image being there after a quake. 52,548 people/sq mi. That's like a mountain version of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Hopefully outside aid can get up there easily enough.

Sad. This could be the wasatch front only the potential for loss of life along the wasatch front is much greater.

Scary times. Two of my closer friends are Nepalese and they are trying their best to make contact with all their friends and family. Prayers with those people over yonder.

Such a poor country and the earthquake was pretty strong. The next few days are going to be rough

I've never understood T-Bag's ongoing hate directed at you. It's always come across as that school child pulling the hair of the girl he has a crush on. Cover your backside bro.

Death toll now reaching 4,000 ... this is getting really really serious now. :(

To put that in perspective, the Christchurch earthquake that made the news 4 years ago here had a total death toll of 185.

I also have a friend who works with the US govt in Nepal. She was climbing Mt Everest a few days ago. Thankfully she was back in Katmandu and is doing all right at the Embassy.

The avalanches are really scary. I have a couple of friends that like snow, like for snowballs and stuff, so it kind of strikes close to home.
