AK's interview

AK gave an interview to a Russian sports magazine. The highlights:

He is not going to play for the Russian team in the world championship. It was a very hard decision for him and he expects a severe backlash from the Russian fans. The Jazz were really against his participation. Sloan and O'Connor told him during the end-of-season meeting that they really liked how he had played last season before the injury and that he needs to concentrate on his recovery now. AK agrees with that, he said that he stil lhas not completely recovered from his injury.

The Jazz made a big investment in him and AK thinks he should respect their position despite his personal desire to play for the Russian national team. Anyway, the team went recently through many changes, having lost Boozer and Korver, and AK needs to be ready to go ful steam from the very beginning of the next season. He thinks that it is possible he will need to return back to his initial role on the Jazz and his role on the offense may become much more important.

The Jazz gave him a special training program, the same as the last year. He thinks that last year's training according to that regimen helped him a lot and he was able to return to the starting five. He attributes his success in the regular season before the succession of injuries to that program.

About his lat contract year: The Jazz are typically signing new contracts with their players in advance, in September-February. In any case, he spent wonderful years in Utah. He really does not want to be traded in the last year of the contract because if he get traded it would likely be not to to the team that he would prefer.

Well, if he's counting on more involvement in the offense, he's going to be really disappointed.
I think we're in for another season of high drama and tears from AK. Carlos is gone, but Jefferson is here. So we've traded one 20/10 guy for another. Memo is out of the starting line-up, but Millsap is in - so expect about the same number of points from the 4/5 as we've had in the past. Deron, the same. CJ will be looking to shoot if he starts at the 2.

Early on, if Memo isn't ready to go, then AK will get half his minutes behind Millsap. That may be a role that best suit him. But really, with Jefferson down low, we need a couple of guys that can hit the mid-range J if teams double-down on Al. You gotta "respect" that range for Paul. And I think the same can be said of CJ and Hayward. But I'd let AK shoot all day if I were an opponent. He's not a real threat.

If all he talks about is offense, I hope they trade his sorry *** as soon as possible. Jazz need AK to do what they've been asking him to do for the last 5 years: concentrate on his strengths, be a defensive disruptor. Instead he pouts because he doesn;t get enough "touches." I predict his expiring will be traded for a wing that actually wants to win, not a prima donna who isn't half as good or important as he thinks he is.

Good point, Glass. That's the one part of the interview that raises questions. I hope he doesn't go all kinda prima donna on our *** if he aint selected to be da man on offense, which was his "former role," years ago. Also interesting was his statement (or OP's summary thereof) that he doen't want to be traded "this year." He says this is because then he couldn't help "select" a new team. Is he suggesting that he would like to be traded at the end of the season, I wonder?

Edit: I guess he's just sayin that he would rather be a free agent than be traded. That makes sense.

Kind of a no brainer if he still has not fully recovered from the injury. Wow. Seems like very few top notch players will be playing for any of the teams this year. If AK plays the way he did before the injury and does not get injured again (knock on wood) and Memo comes back healthy I think we could put a scare into LA this year and Fes gets some minutes during the regular season. Looks like the Nets might still have a lot of cap space, but still have to think they will look at other trades before AK.
