I never thought that the Nets would be interested in trading for Boozer after the Favors pick, doesn't this trade basically solidify that assumption? Not to say that they won't offer him a deal via FA. However, it looks like the Nets have already made their "salary dump."
The New Jersey Nets traded Yi Jianlian to the Washington Wizards for Quinton Ross on Tuesday.

The Nets sent the Wizards $3 million to complete the deal and also received the Wizards' trade exception, according to league sources.

The move allows the Nets to clear another $3 million in cap space to spend on free agency this summer.

Yi is scheduled to make $4 million next season. Ross is set to make $1.1 million. The Nets should now have roughly $30 million in cap space to spend after the move, according to sources.

They will have to clear even more cap space, however, to sign two free agents to league-maximum deals. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and others are projected to earn $16.6 million in first-year salaries. So a team would need $33.14 million under the cap to sign two max-contract free agents. The Nets are close, but they aren't there yet.

The trade is the latest in a series of moves in which the Wizards are using potential salary cap space to acquire assets instead of free agents. Last week, the Wizards agreed to acquire Kirk Hinrich from the Bulls for the draft rights to Kevin Seraphin.

Yi is expected to compete for a starting position with forward Andray Blatche, who broke his foot this summer and will be out of basketball-related activities for the next three months.

I know there are quite a few nice FAs this year, but seriously, with all these teams dumping players like garbage to join the DuhBron Sweepstakes, a lot of them are going to end up completely empty-handed. Some of these teams are not gonna be able to land the huge FAs they think they will and will fall smack down to garbage-land (or remain there).

The only reason why they would do Favors for Boozer is that Boozer is an established low post threat. But they could just sign him outright no need to trade.

While this is true, Boozer would rather have a S&T because it would give him more money for a longer period. If Boozer is intent on going and finds a team that wants him, it would behoove him to have his agent work on a S&T that works for both parties.

IMO, if NJ were to do a S&T w/the Jazz, it would definitely give them an established player that could entice 'Bron 'Bron. With a lineup of Harris, Bron, Lopez and Boozer, that's a pretty formidable team. Now would James want to work with Booze again is another story...

Meh. The Nets still might want to give us Favors for Booze, there is just no way to know.

Why would they give us 3d overall pick in the draft (no matter how stupid that pick was, but still Nets thought it was good enough for 3d overall) for Booz, whom they can just sign outright without giving up anything at all?

By the Nets admission, they thought of Favors as an asset more than someone that were counting on being a future star for them. If anything I think they would look to trade for a Power Forward higher on the food chain such as Bosh or Amare.
