OKC 2018 1st
GSW 2017 2nd
UTA 2018 2nd

for

D'Angelo Russell
Julius Randle
Brandon Ingram
Louis Williams
Ivica Zubac
2017 2nd rd pick

Leaves Utah with

PG - Russell, Mack, Neto, Burks
SG - Hayward(Burks),Williams, Ingles/Ingram
SF - Johnson, Ingram, Ingles
PF - Randle, Lyles, Diaw, Johnson, Bolomboy
C - Gobert, Withey, Diaw, Zubac

*When Burks returns slide Hayward back to SF

Resign Hayward for about 27MM and you're at about 100mm in salaries for 12 players, add in the draft picks and you're set for next season. The summer after that you've got Julius Restricted, and Lou Will and Neto unrestricted.

This would leave LA looking something like

PG - Hill, Clarkson, Exum, Calderon, Huertas
SG - Hood, Young, Clarkson, Exum, Hill
SF - Deng, Young, Exum, World Peace
PF - Favors, Nance Jr., Robinson
C - Mozgov, Black, Favors

Is this your first year watching basketball? If you would like to join the Lakers fan board, please be our guest. You make a trade thread, trading the Jazz starting 5 for the Lakers starting 5 and call yourself a Jazz fan?

Your post has triggered our sarcasm detector. Please revise.

(I kinda like the trade though)

This trade works well and bridges the gap to the 2020's better than it might first appear. I'd even consider sending more picks to make it happen. For starters it settles the cap til the summer of 2019. These players combined with all the draft picks will make the team younger over the next few years.

This reduces expenditures for the 17-18 and 18-19 seasons.

Joe Johnson expires after next season so all the space needed to resign Randle clears just in time.

This kicks the can, to go well over the cap, til the summer of 2019 with Zubac, Bolomboy and Burks unrestricted and D'Angelo Russell & Lyles restricted. The summer after that you've got a restricted Brandon Ingram, which times well with Hayward turning 30 and his next contract in its final years.

It's 3 starters(ages 30, 24, 25) for 2(ages 20, Randle turns 22 tomorrow) and one of the better bench players in the league Lou Williams(30yo).
also 2 19 yo projects (Ingram, Zubac) and 21 yo Exum. Utah could throw in Withey too if necessary.

The Jazz acquire 2 players the Lakers tanked for in this, the asking price will likely be higher.... Rodney Hood would be the new face of the Lakeshow... Utah trades away solid assets here but none have the starpower of Russell..

A. I want to win now.
B. Getting younger doesn't always = getting better.
C. Only way I trade away a group of guys like Favors, Hood, Hill, and Exum is if we are getting an actual star player. Lakers dont currently have one. (I love deangelo russell but he doesn't look to have the speed, quickness and athleticism to be a legit star)

How I feel to the tee

Remember this: "Bump this thread when the Laker's SUCK!"

BUMP

The Laker's only improved due to Walton. You could have traded Gordon Hayward and a draft pick for all of these guys at the draft and the Laker's would have been more than happy. Walton is the real prize. He is doing more with less.

So we just finish a re-build and you want to start all over?

Well, I'd like them to pull this trade off.. I wouldn't characterize it as a re-build, this certainly doesn't leave the cupboard barren, Randle, Russell and Williams are all proven --- at the very least you've still got a dynamic trio/core of Russell-Hayward-Gobert.

I'd characterize it more as a major coup......

The Lakers painstakingly tanked for years for those assets.. No way they do this trade, not even if ya threw in 2 more 1st rd picks... There'd be so many devastated Lakers fans who were buying the Russell and Ingram hype hand over fist.

Zubac the 2nd rd pick is a legit sleeper.

The assimilation of Lou Williams would be key in dealing with the downgrade at SG especially with Burks injury. He's been extremely productive for his paygrade. He's like a way better version of Trey Burke and I'm sure he'd work well with Alec at PG the same sorta way.

Now I know people don't like the idea of getting young but lets say they pull a trade off like this and then nail a few picks in the next 2 drafts. the Jazz could develop the assets to go after several real big names in 2 for 1 trades and such due to an abundance of young talent.. Which is why I like to aim for that, not just to be good but loaded. I figure it's best to have a warchest of assets saved up in case of emergency.
