Are #14 picks really worthless?

Ya its a pretty stupid when someone tries to point out all the 14 over all picks and there success. Because really you need to count every single pick after the 14th pick+ the 14th pick. Its up to the GM to make a good selection.

I guarantee that you can find a very good player who has been picked after the 14th selection in every draft.

The question isn't whether it was worth losing the pick for the playoffs. The question is: Was it worth it to trade two first round picks and Koufos for Big Al and his salary?

Hindsight is easy. But last year we had a crying baby Deron to deal with and it seemed like the right move at the time. Every commentators agreed that was one of the steal of the season, nearly up there with how Lakers got Gasol.

How does that validate the trade? Who gives a **** what some commentator says when 99% percent of them dont watch anything but some highlight clips and the major market teams. You havent noticed how ill informed most of them are? Most commentators thought Boozer was the best player on our team for a long time. It took all the way until Boozer played for the Bulls for anyone to notice all his flaws.

I just dont get how these so called professionals dont know **** about their craft. Which leads me to the big question. How did the Jazz brass not know what Jefferson had to offer, and all his flaws?

The Spurs can plug in guys so easily because they have a system and star/core players to plug the major parts.

Cy's point is exactly correct. The Spurs have a set system, and they draft guys who fit their system or can do one thing well (ie. Shoot, pass, block shots). And then they just put those guys in a position to use their specialty and not worry about doing much else.

Plus, the guys are usually later picks and have a chip on their shoulder to show the other 20+ teams that passed on them why they were wrong.

Spurs formula: a) you get a guy that's hungry to prove something plus, b) can do one thing well plus, c) put them in a system that works and multiply that by x) a great coach that knows WTF he's doing out there and all that = WIN.

As far as the Jazz go, their formula is: draft guys that our stupid coach will bench for a couple years, milk every ounce of fun out of the game for them, don't put them in a position to use their natural talents or assets, and watch them turn to ****.

And THAT is why I'd much rather make the playoffs then get more draft picks. Lottery draft picks are pretty much a waste to this team.

So, to answer the OPs question. Yes. the #14th pick is worthless to the Jazz.

That is a little harsh because Corbin is playing our rookies a decent amount of time, especially if you consider they had 0 training camp and 1 of them is about as raw as a rookie can get.

And put them in there with simply one of the best all around players to ever play the game at any position.

Of course every player has flaws.. but your argument just supported mine. Boozer was so bad defensively that we got bounced from the playoffs numerous times against the lakers. He also lacked size down low.

That's why we got Jefferson. He also had his flaws but I believe KOC did his best given the cards we had to play with (we were never going to get Howard, Bosh, etc, etc).

You're speaking like we're NY or the Lakers or something. News flash, we're Utah, no quality FA was ever going to come here out of his own free will.

nope, they're not worthless. In fact they have a value that is very attainable with the assets we have to trade.

Don't forget that the final push this season certainly increased the value of Jefferson and Harris, who both have expiring deals next year.

True, but they immediatley lost all that value by playing in the playoffs and showing just how bad they are.

link?

I never said either player would be pursued by teams with long-term interests in them. But expiring contracts get a lot more valuable and easy to move if the other team thinks they can win some games while they clear future cap space.
