Awarding the World Cup to Qatar in 2022 Was A Mistake

So says the Preisdent of FIFA.

So either FIFA is dumb beyond belief for scheduling the World Cup, a summer event, in one of the most scorching hottest places on the planet (a fact that wasn't just discovered a couple years ago...even at night the temps get to around 88 to 94 degrees F), or they are so corrupt they awarded Qatar the Cup anyway due to the massive payments they got.

Qatar beat out the US for some bizarre reason (pisses me off since Denver was one of the 18 locations that would have seen some games), even though the temps in the US are not nearly as bad and the US has a much better infrastructure and everything else. Good god FIFA is filled with morons, or greedy ****s. I hope they give in to their senses and move it here. They have 8 years. Right now their plan is to move the World Cup to the winter...the time that pretty much every major soccer league is running. Par for the course for the dumb ****s at FIFA.

Doesn't Qatar have oodles of cash? Could not they build a super dome with a retractable roof? Don't they have an indoor ski resort?

Get a ho to catch their supreme leader on tape saying something racist/sxist/anti-marijuana. Problem solved.

Has anyone been happy where the Olympics or World Cup have been played? Ever?

Every single time people complain about it.

They are given to the highest bidder. They never base it on "the best place." Just look at what SLC had to do to bribe the Winter Olympics to come here.

Anyone else find this post to be quite ironic?

At least Salt Lake City actually has mountains and stuff near it, and fits the physical location idea of a Winter Olympics.

Qatar does not fit the environmental requirements to host a summer event. It just doesn't. Unless they make all their stadiums indoors like the one in Phoenix.

You'd think, but they don't appear to be making much progress now. I also don't know how FIFA feels about having all the venues being indoors (when the WC was in the US in 94, it was a big deal when one of the venues was the Silverdome...I remember they grew grass in like squares to fit on the field), though since they made this decision perhaps they don't care about anything.

They probably were awarded it for all those fake war propaganda scenes that they help make and that everybody were told were shots from Tripoli, but were found out to actually be a film set in Doha.

FIFA and Olympic officials don't care about anything but lining their pocketbooks. I was just reading an article on the estimated death toll of immigrant laborers. You know, since manual labor of this type is beneath the people of Qatar. But if imported laborers are dying, no big deal.

They'd need to build tons of those tho.

I doubt that is a problem.

Doha’s skyline is ever changing. Fifteen years ago there was almost nothing here in this West Bay area of Doha. Two thirds of these buildings have gone up since I arrived here in 2007. It’s fascinating to watch a city and country grow the way Doha, Qatar is

Surely you see the difference between building a dozen retractable roof stadiums and high rises being built for profit, right? I'm assuming those buildings have offices and people and stuff in them and the businesses using them lease the space.

They have a population that is less than Utahs. I'm am certain they are building them because they want too, not because of the lack of available desert. My understanding is that Qatar wants to pull professional people in from around the globe. So they build ****.

The UAE has certainly set off a building arms race in that area of the world. I believe I read recently that Suadi Arabia is going to build the tallest building in the world now in Bin Laden's old stomping grounds - Jeddah.

I think they all a little paranoid about their energy status dwindling so they've got to get more diverse economies going as best they can even if they are overbuilding for the time being.
