According to Hoopsstats.com, Utah ranked #3 in frontcourt last season but a terrible 29th in the backcourt. I expect the frontcourt to stay about the same in the rankings but improve overall with all 4 main players showing improvements, measurably so from Favors.

How much better will an older Hayward & Burks, additions of Mo, Marvin, & Foye up the Jazz in the rankings? Hard to say they don't improve from 29th if they stay healthy. The only spot they didn't improve is in the backup point guard position.

I say somewhere in the high teens. 18 is my guess so 11 spots.

I voted for 20-23 because while there should be improvement between player growth and having Mo instead of Harris, the Jazz could still use a better backup PG. But hopefully I'm wrong and the Jazz go up a lot.

Foye and more Burks replacing Bell should be significant. Mo is a sideways step but should fit better if I'm reading the FO goals correctly (same offense better shooters).

You've got to give us more time. There is no way I can properly evaluate your question in such a small window.

Technically, SF is front but I think in reality it should be factored into back too.

I default to 666 days in all my polls. If you voted then you're supporting devil worship. <:->

Well there goes my temple recommend!!!!

Damn you Franklin!!!

what does hoopsstats use to rank them? not that i disagree with the fact that our backcourt sucked, but 29th?! i'd just be curious to know what lens they're looking through when they make that assessment.

that said, i expect mild improvements.

- mo is better than devin at some things, but far worse at other things. probably a net gain, but not a huge one.
- hayward will probably start at 2 and should improve, but still has some consistency issues.
- burks will see more minutes and should improve, but still has some consistency issues and hasn't shown a TON of basketball IQ yet.
- foye will probably play a limited role as a shooting specialist -- which we could definitely use, but he won't turn the whole team around.
- the backup PG department still sucks.

roger braille + watson

is there someone worse than they?

well sure there are worse players than those two, but even if there weren't, you're talking about a guy who played only half the season, and another guy who played 80% of the schedule with fairly limited minutes. if the suckage was just limited to those two, then you'd think that the other 6-7 guys who played backcourt minutes would have helped bring them up a LITTLE bit.

at any rate, i'm just asking -- what are they using? PER? net production by position? +/-? adjusted +/-?

Deff. I don't really care which stat is used though. The Jazz sucked last season & should be at least marginally better this year.

.: Deff: Efficiency Recap Difference = Efficiency Recap - Opponent's Efficiency Recap
.: Eff: NBA Efficiency recap = ((Points + Rebounds + Assists + Steals + Blocks) - ((Field goals attempts - Field goals made) + (Free throws attempts - Free throws made) + Turnovers))

ok, so it is essentially net production by position. that doesn't really surprise me. most teams have at least one star-level player a the 1 or 2, and most of our PG & SG minutes went to guys who were average at best. i think there are other ways to look at it than net raw production, but either way it defines a fairly obvious problem.

agreed. i just hope the improvement is as tangible as we're all hoping. i think hayward getting more SG minutes will help, and marvin's presence pretty much guarantees that's part of the plan.
