We are guaranteed a top 5 pick. The consistently mentioned top 5 players are Flagg, Harper, Bailey, VJ, and Tre.

Obviously we take best player available but I am always fascinated by fit. Stockton/Malone. Jordan/Pippen. Jokic/Murray. Tatum/Brown. Certain combinations of talent create dynamic tandems that dominate for years.

Who is the best fit next to Lauri and why?

I dont think the Jazz will trade Lauri unless we have some amazing offer. So i am assuming Lauri is the best player and the draft pick rises to be his running mate.

In that case, I think Harper probably makes for a more natural partner with Lauri than Cooper. Cooper is the consensus better player but I am not sold that Cooper and Lauri make sense together.

Lauri is the star who can't pass. He is also a 7-footer who plays well below his stature on defense for the worst defensive team ever. Any player who can pass and play good defense would be a good fit: Flagg, Harper, VJ Edgecombe.

Jazz need talent. Cooper Flagg is possibly a generational talent. He’s the best fit with anybody the Jazz currently or will in the future have in this team.

Harper, but this is really the wrong question. If we can get Flagg then we’re focusing on how to fit with him primarily, not Lauri. The good news there is he fits anywhere with anyone.

Cooper fits better even without considering he's better.

Lauri needs help on both ends. Cooper provides that. Harper does not.

What the Jazz need in order to build their team is an 'advantage creator' who can initiate with the ball. Both Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper can do that.

If you want to nitpick you could say that there is a bit of overlap between a guy like Ace Bailey and Lauri, since Lauri is a plus-size wing shooter who normally plays at the 3, but the Jazz can use multiple interchangeable wings.

There is no question that Flagg is a (universally agreed upon) better prospect than Harper but I don't want to sell Dylan short: there is a small but decent chance that Harper will end up having a better career than Flagg. Taller/heavier basketball players have a much higher rate of career-altering injuries. Also, Harper has a more defined role to excel, while Flagg has a small but non-zero chance of repeating the trajectory of Aaron Gordon.

Whichever one is the most likely pick at #5 is the one we better hope fits best.
