1. Are they team players or do their egos drive them to the point that we would see too much iso ball and not enough ability to fit into a seamless team concept?

2. Once their contracts are up (George in one year and Butler after), won't we likely have to max them? So a maxed Hayward, a maxed George, Gobert at 20M a year...we would be at about 97M in 18-19 for just three players with the cap likely to stay at or about 101M next season. Does this monetarily make any sense? Someone said it in another thread. The Millers have crazy money. But they're not Ballmer or the like.

3. Would they be happy here? This isn't as big an issue for me as winning solves a lot but it is an issue nonetheless. If we trade Exum, Hood/Favors, and 2-3 1sts, we sure as hell better know George (or Butler) is sticking around.
 
#2 that is the price of championships. Winning will bring in more money to be sure. But if they want championships that's the price.

#3 will always be a risk. But like you said, winning solves a lot. I a combo of Gobert/Hayward/Butler(George)/Hill is winning 60+ games s season and fighting tooth and nail with the warriors than I would bet they stay.
 
George will not stay. I'd rather risk it on Butler over anyone that's ONLY if Hayward stays
 
This is why we go after one of them first then fill in the space left by Hill.
 
2) Of course it makes sense. That's how this has always worked. You get stars, you flesh out the rest with savvy moves.
 
I am hoping Jazz will make a trade for Butler or PG13 or another similar quality player during the draft. That way we know what we have before FA begins. If we trade for Paul George I think that would make it easy to re-sign Hayward. That also makes it somewhat easy to let Hill go if he is asking too much or maybe put Hill in a position that he might want to play here for a discount for the chance to win it all. I think we look pretty good to start FA if we have PG13, Gobert and Hayward.

How are you getting to that 97M number because Gobert 20 + Hayward 33m + PG13 33m =86m. If one of them gets the super max (it is unlikely both will) it would go up to 92m for those three? Or are you thinking both Hayward and PG13 are getting the super max? I guess that would put them at 97M. Also I am less worried about the 101 salary cap and more worried about hitting the luxury tax cap which is 120ish million. With those three players I think we could get a team around them for the remaining 34M-23M. I also think the Millers would go into luxury tax territory if the team had a legit title chance.

Yep. 3 Max guys is the only way this team competes for a championship. Both championship level teams have 3 right now, and the W's have 4. You can build around a great core with good picks, bargain vets who want a ring, and a few specialists.

It's an old article but it gives a little insight as to what kind of player he was and wanted to be.
 
The odds of us actually landing one of these guys has got to be really slim. I could see CP3 go to Chicago before I see Butler come here. And I really doubt CP3 would even consider Chicago right now.
