This hurts the jazz. Already on the front page of ESPN:

D-Will, Paul or Howard next for Knicks??

The Lebron circus which turned into the Crymelo circus will now become the Dwill, Paul, or Howard Circus.

Dwill will probably be the main subject of speculation--his team is weakest, new coach and plays in Utah.

Yeah but this was there before the trade went down. Also New York's salary situation is not favorable. I am sure Deron wants to win and is willing to jump ship to do it, but I don't think he will leave 17 mill on the table especially considering the possibly steep limits on salary imposed by the new CBA, if and when they agree on one.

Knicks gave up 4 starters, 3 picks for a player Denver HAD to trade. Nuggets sure did well in a bad situation. However losing an elite player is still not good at all.

The hilarious thing is that if Deron is willing to forfeit money to win, NY is pretty low on the list in contrast to a team like, say, the Lakers.

The media is retarded.

I voted that it "hurt" the Jazz because I think it does long term. I think Denver's GM should automatically get NBA Exec of the year for what he managed to get back for Melo. You never get equal value when you're basically forced to trade a superstar but Denver came damn close, and if any of their extra draft picks pan out then they may actually come out ahead.

I hope KOC and the Millers took notes on how Denver handled the situation because they will be going through almost the exact same thing soon enough.

According to ESPN, Denver is looking to trade Gallinari right after they get him in the trade. What would it take for Utah to get him?

Take on Al Harrington's 5 year deal. We're halfway through, so teams will be more willing to consider AK's expiring (roughly $8.9mm more owed this year). Offering to take on Harrington's remaining $30.5mm should get Denver's attention. The problem is Denver has to give up a big contract to make it work (Nene). I don't know if it's worth getting rid of Al Harrington at the expense of Gallinari and Nene.

They also lost Chauncey ... he has arguably been Denver's MVP while there. So, in the short run, this year it will help their chances for the playoffs. But after reading other posters, I have to agree in the long run this could benefit Denver. I don't think Melo is the kind of player who you can build a championship around. He's more of a second banana, like a Pippen to Jordan, or a Worthy to Magic, and he has a bad attitude that those guys did not have.

It looks like they are building a team around Nene. Nene has the ability and the skills but not the temperament to be a Star. I agree that losing Billups probably hurts worse than losing Melo.

Dwill could gaurd Billups. He can't gaurd Ty Lawson.

Very true. This probably hurts the jazz. we beat anthony and billups nuggets team in the playoffs last year without two starter and without home court advantage. Fess was our startin center and we had no problem against them. they didn't scare me before but now I think d will cant guard lawson and gallinari is another 3 point shooter and we all know the jazz dont guard the 3 very well.

This is a tough situation to analyse. I agree with Colin Cowherd statement that you should trade 45 guys for one superstar. This should always be done. However, i just don't have the belief that Melo is that much of a star. He could be. Tracy McGrady could have been. But he and Tracy fall into the same camp for me - guys who are superstars from a media perspective but are simply not that great to carry a team to at least be a legit contender. Denver's roster appeared to be loaded (with Melo as centerpiece) but they're not that good.

We'll see what melo is made of especially teaming up with another player who appears to me to be in the false superstar category.

Two super stars - DWade + Lebron
Two super stars - Melo + Amare

Not the same league really.

The NBA is a league with a handful of super teams against the Washington Generals....The Jazz should change their name to the Generals

There is truth to this. If the top 10 players in the league--the ones who win championships--want to play in LA, Chicago, NYC and Miami, then everyone else is screwed. Those top-market teams don't really have to draft, they can just wait for superstar players in their prime to come to them in free agency and surround them with a few role players (e.g., Kendrick Perkins, James Jones, Mike Miller, etc). Even Boston's stars are second tier. Even a market like Dallas can't compete.

Teams like Utah should follow the San Antonio model -- get a good system and coach, draft a superstar who is low key and doesn't care about being in the spotlight, and then bring in the best European players you can find. Then add a couple vets who want to win, but aren't good enough to dictate where they play.

I agree with this. The Lakers' and Spurs' dynasties are ending. Phoenix, Portland and Houston are rebuilding. The future of the West will be OKC, the Clips and the Jazz, if they can put themselves back together.

Good for helping our chances at making the playoffs this season.

Bad for the league going forward, especially if these things aren't strongly addressed in the next CBA.

My interest in the NBA is the lowest it has been in 20 years.

They get Felton in return.

Felton is a better player than Billups now. And is much younger.

Deron cannot guard quick players. Ty Lawson and Felton will run circles around us.

To be fair, Melo's and Amare's skillsets/styles actually mesh a lot better than two fast perimeter players not especially known for their jump-shooting.

Meh. Either way, Utah is either a late lottery or a first round exit(5-8 at best).

I can't get too excited about maybe winning one or two games in the playoffs. Like I said, Meh.
