18. Shane Larkin, Miami, So., 5-11, 171 lbs., PG. 14.5 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 4.6 APG.

Larkin's worked out for the Celtics, Bucks, Jazz and Suns. He's got the 76ers and Mavericks this week. From the sound of things, it looks like his best workout might have been in Utah, though sources say the Bucks are very high on him at No. 15. That No. 14-16 range seems about right for Larkin. If he isn't taken there, the next team that really needs a point guard is the Jazz again at No. 21 (assuming they don't take a point guard at No. 14).

19. Dennis Schroeder, Germany, 19, 6-2, 156 lbs., PG. 11.9 PPG, 3.3 APG, 40 3PT%.

Schroeder is back in Germany after working out for the Mavs, Bucks, Celtics, Jazz and Rockets. Like Larkin, Schroeder's range now appears in the 14-16 window, with the Jazz, Bucks and Celtics all eyeing the point guard. However, sources say the workouts haven't gone particularly well for Schroeder, and he's struggled against the more physical defense at the workouts. "He looked frustrated," one NBA scout said of Schroeder's workout with his team. "His body language wasn't great. He's a very good talent and I wouldn't read too much into the workout, but it didn't really help him."

This really explains why everybody is putting Larkin at #14 and has Schroeder dropping. Larkin had his best workout with the Jazz and Schroder ironically was the one who struggled to play defense (what a concept?).

Who does he have the jazz picking?

I think he was talking about Schroeder struggling against more physical defense. I understand that as he is getting pushed around because he weighs too little.

I put little value performance wise good or bad in these workouts. I still think we take Dennis over Larkin if they are both on the board.

So if Schroeder gets past 16, there is a decent chance he's there at 21?

Based on those rankings, I would not be upset if the Jazz reached a little at #14 for one of them and then drafted the other one if he fell to #21. Jazz need three PG's on their roster. Have Larkin and Schroeder compete against each other. One may emerge as a starter (Schroeder?), while the other slides in as a back-up (Larkin). And if BOTH show starting skills? Well, then trade opportunities will arise. Tinsley could be signed for another year as a mentor (well, except for working with them on shooting).

You wouldn't draft either of those guys to start. And I doubt the Jazz want Tinsley as the full time starter initially. I think we'll see a free agent point guard, maybe a draft pick and Tinsley.

I wouldn't mind. I don't want vets to come in to help us be just good enough to finish in 9th or 10th place in the West. Jazz did that this season. And now, the Jazz are in position to get exactly what? Perhaps a rotation player, but likely no one of huge impact. If Schroeder and/or Larkin are on the team, I'd like to see them get a ton of minutes. I'd opt for starting someone like Tinsley, having him play 8 mins each half and then divide the rest of the minutes between a draft pick and even Burks. Let's shoot for developing our young players, absorbing a lot of losses early, and finishing in the 5-8 range for next year's draft, where the Jazz would have a legitimate shot at adding a franchise player to the team.
