Why in the holy hell would you do something like that? Seems highly irresponsible to me. If it escapes and kills they should be charged with every death.

It's irresponsible if you don't take precautions to make sure there is no escape. But even as a layman, I can see where the ability to create something presages and enables teh ability to prevent it or destroy it.

Well, there are already plenty of strains that are nor a combination of deadly and transmitable between humans out there for them to work on.

Hell they even created 5 strains that are airborne. To me it seems like the are unnecessarily playing with fire.

There is no stopping progress. I have little doubt that within a couple of decades, creating a super-virus will be so trivial, that anyone with a few thousand dollars to spare will be able to do it.

That's why we need a complete overhaul of our defense system. I am all for a large defense budget, but it needs to be completely re-appropriated. The era of war between major powers is long gone. There is no point in dumping a trillion dollars into a fighter jet program that has little to no use. We must begin a large scale international collaboration to build robust defenses against biological, chemical, nuclear, and cyber attacks. We are woefully unequipped to handle unconventional modern threats.

I absolutely agree.

As for the first paragraph. I do not see this as progress, it is playing with fire because they can (in my opinion).
