Cody Williams Hype and Appreciation Thread

I would buy land on "Cody will be an NBA player" Island, as I think I'm higher than most people on that thought. I wouldn't buy land on anything more than that.

Defensively, he’s an NBA player if he can gain strength and hold his ground. The way he scored in college, however, hasn’t translated. The occasional slippery drive to the rim isn’t going to keep him involved in the offense. He needs to make 3s and be able to score off a few dribbles.

I think the Jazz will give him until year 3 to prove himself. I think they’ll pick up his option, but whether they extend him is another question.

David Locke just did a podcast talking about how Brice and Johnny Juzang were sub-30% from 3pts as rookies. If the Jazz were a more veteran team, Cody probably wouldn’t have played more than a handful of games this year.

Brice and Juzang were much better shooting prospects than Cody. I agree that rookie 3FG% doesn't mean much, especially if they play 200 minutes like Juzang, but it's very different when you have good shooting prospects and bad shooting prospects. Cody only shot 2.4 threes per40 in college and shot 71% from the line. Totally different situation than Brice shooting 40% on high volume and 83% from the line. It's not that it's impossible for Cody to become a good shooter, it's just a very different situation when you have good shooting prospects who struggled vs bad shooting prospects that struggle.

It could be as early as this fall. See if Cody puts on the 15 lbs of muscle.
There is a lot more I want to see than muscle. It is all about improvement, desire, engagement. These are what I want to see. I think he has the talent he just needs to desire to obtain it.

Players can be gangly and still be effective. Look at scottie Pippen. Strength is key.

I’ve said it a million times now…but the weight issue was definitely a distraction from other issues. Being skinny isn’t why he can’t dribble, can’t shoot, and has no motor.

I’m my defense, it’s brought up way more often that gaining weight is going to be this magic bullet.
You have a good point. Getting stronger won't make Cody an NBA player. However getting stronger will hopefully help him gain confidence which could unlock some things.
It's more fun as a fan to be hopeful, at least for me.
