What's new

Controversial question. Why are most athletes black?

Cornerback is perhaps the best example out there - a position that is all about speed, quickness, acceleration, jumping, etc. I don't think there has been a white cornerback in the NFL since Jason Sehorn retired.

Jimmy "The Greek" would like to weigh in with his opinion.

Who remembers that atrocity of a comment?

Didn't he say that slave owners purposely bred their strongest workers to produce the strongest athletes? Slaves were seen as property. People bred their biggest cows and oxen, and trees with largest fruit. I don't see it being a leap in logic to suggest they would do same for slaves. How is what Jimmy the Greek saying that racist?

Cause everything that anyone says about any race, except the caucasian race, is racist. Duh

I think it has to do a lot with opportunity.
I may be wrong but my observation is that a lot of these guys have experienced a drastic social uplift/change due to the fact that they became basketball pros.

My experience is the most exceptions to that rule are 7 footer and kids whose parents were athletes themselves.

It's similar with soccer here in Germany.

My honest answer. Their historical environments. Africa has always lent itself to its' people being very active. That followed up by slavery here in the colonies and later, U.S., helped create a people with a strong physical gene pool imo. In short, I believe over generations, we can change our athletic makeup through activity and training. Obviously, you can only change this by degrees from generation to generation but I believe this. In many ways, it's no different than other animals whose bodies adapt to their environments.
