After our little debate yesterday regarding college coaches developing talent and which schools hurt kids draft stock.. I did a massive amount of research and came to a definite conclusion.

Both UK and Duke are atop the list of seeing highly ranked kids go pro at or better than expected.
There is one team that is the worst, by such a huge margin, that its unbelievable.

The team (coach) that raw data shows is easily the worst place to go is UNC. And its not remotely close.

Why u always bringing up UK bro? I wasn't talking bout that. Lets stay on topic though... I'm inviting a UNC bashfest.
Bitches thirsty?

Nah, I liked UNC for the most part, at least when they had Marshall. Didn't watch a single UNC game this past season though.

I'm not surprised. Some coaches recruit/use players in their system to make them better, and some coaches won't change their system at all. Roy Williams (currently) is the latter.

It's actually quite shocking how much Roy's coaching acumen has decreased in the last decade. It's almost like he just doesn't care anymore.

He's slightly similar to Corbin in that he likes to play veterans over the young guys, even if the young guys are better. He held Harrison Barnes back by not realizing that Barnes couldn't create his own shot that well, and he needed somebody to set screens for him to get open. If Barnes had gone to Duke, where he would have been used similar to JJ Redick or Kyle Singler, he's a top 10 pick. Not a doubt in my mind. I won't give him too much crap about McAdoo, because well...McAdoo is just a terrible basketball player. He can dunk, and sometimes hit an open jumpshot, but that's about it. When Roy doesn't have a top post player and PG, his teams never, ever do well, and that's because he won't adapt his system to the players that he has.

Wasn't barnes a top ten pick last year?

But he IS a top 10 pick.

Not sure what you're trying to get at here... moreover, Redick & Singler aren't good good targets to aim for.. LOL

Barnes should have come out his freshman year.. he would have gone higher and earned another year of millions. Having said that, he's a very tame example of UNC holding kids back.

You guys are right. I forgot he was a top-10 pick. My bad. He was supposed to go higher though, and could have.

I also wasn't comparing him to Redick or Singler, but I'm not surprised you thought I was. I was comparing their roles to the role that he could have had. Barnes was/is a good shooter in college. His downfall however was shooting off of the dribble and creating his own shot. If he's put in an offense where he doesn't have to do those things (Duke), then his numbers skyrocket. It's not that difficult to figure out.

Roy is known for purposely not playing talented freshman so that they come back.

Marvin Williams is an example, although he did leave. He should have been starting.

Roy didn't play McAdoo for quite a while his freshman year so that he would come back. Turns out he shouldn't have been worried anyways.

Many other examples as well.

the Coach K factor is a definite plus, particularly with players who have stayed at Duke for multiple seasons

he starts by recruiting high-character types with high BB-IQ's and further molds them to be hard working, solid citizen-types, and NBA scouts know it and value it.

He probably would have been the Jazz pick at 3 instead of Kanter.
